CBs take usually longer than others to settle in. So much of their game is about understanding what your teammates do.

That said, I don't think Bailly will turn out to be anything special.

Bailly is a good player. He hasn't got it easy under a limited coach like Mourinho but he's got a bright future ahead.

He's a gamble, of course. The best teams take gambles. I see nothing wrong with a team of United's calibre splashing the cash on a player who might just turn out to justify his price-tag eventually.

Agree with M99 as well, he hasn't looked all that bad to me.

Looking like a bargain long term. Absolute monster of a defender, so composed for his age. 1-2 years until he's the best in the world.

He is crazily overhyped by United fans, that I agree. But he is an extremely promising player with the right kind of attributes to become top quality under a coach like Mourinho. Right now I personally rate him as a good-ish player. His technical ability and reading of the game is top notch already. Heading and decision making(that too only sometimes) are his only 2 weaknesses atm.

Bailly is only one of many examples. The market for young defenders is so inflated + most of them end up being major flops.
Stones, Mangala, Marquinhos, Umtiti, Chygrynski, Ranocchia.... all up-and-down/mediocre players.

30m is not breaking the bank anymore, not at least in the PL and certainly not for a big club. Its the standard price.

But yea I agree. There are no clear cut world class CBs in the 22-28 age group at least at the moment. But then a Bonucci or a Godin simply cant be prised away from their respective clubs anymore whatever money the buyer is willing to pay. So, the only option is to target 'potential'. Unless and until you arent doing a Man City by carelessly throwing away money at each and every hyped up option in the hope of sticking, I dont believe this is a problem.

Been unreal again lately. First young CB in quite some time that looks the real deal. Can't wait to sign him.

Mourinho is the perfect manager for a guy like Bailly. If it was Klopp or Pup, he wouldnt be playing anywhere close to this.
Just work on his aerial game(weak in that area proly cos he came from la liga) and we have a real player on our hands for many years.

Terrible CB, Ben Yedder clowned him

He was immense for like 70 minutes. Same as the Liverpool match. He is an great defender, just prone to mistakes because he has shit partners and has to do everything himself.

He was pretty good tbh. As long as United have Championship-level players like Smalling, Jones, etc. in the team the entire defense will look bad.

Ben Yedder dominated him 1v1 to win the game, who cares what he did for 70 minutes lmao

then Lenglet almost scored by jumping over him, again 1v1 he lost to conceded a chance in the box

Definitely can't blame his teammates for that rating.
