i did read some updates early morning that UEFA had then later on been working with some financial institution to finance a new 6 billion package for rival competition to ESL....
so i guess that recipe worked enough i guess ??

English clubs should’ve done better though. They don’t have the revenue problem that the Spanish and Italian league does. They could’ve stopped this ridiculous proposal from ever even coming this close to materializing but like all else, money talks
Florentino’s absolutely insane interview will go down in infamy like a failed dictator trying to speak to his country one last time
Agnelli, fuck. We are the second worst club of these 12. Terrible

its true that italian clubs were under financial pressure and the proposal was very lucrative to get quick benefits as compared to current state of affairs and we all could have said NO but we all failed to put club integrity values and respect towards others to maximize profit amongst ourselves... thats club owners btw not u and me
fans were really victimized tbh because as per statement all these clubs used billions of fans as a tool while screwing everyone around it.
i feel no better than u mate. end of the day these people like agnelli gazidis they failed grossly in the interest of themselves - they had fiduciary duty to protect the club and fans - ESL PR was nothing but conflict of interests amongst those 12 clubs
i am sorry that u juve inter barca real and EPL fans got victimized - i stand by u guys values that we are not them the owners

Re: The European Super League Megathread
Well, that was a joke of a coup.
Very disappointed at AC Milan for signing in to this ridiculous contest. Greedy American bastards behind the decision mostly.
I feel Inter were more financially stuck to accept going into this deal. As for Juve, I have no idea why they are in a terrible financial shape given the way I thought they were run. Yet, I understand Agenlli being a greedy snake.
What boggles the mind is the premier league teams, who are richer and more profitable than others by margins, absolutely shitting the bed on this one. They obviously have the most profitable product in the premier league, and they were willing to jeopardize it on a half-baked project like this one...
They severely underestimated the fan power in England.

Manchester United are the only club who have ever been in the Champions League, Europa League and European Super League in the same season.

Re: The European Super League Megathread
Given how much money was involved, this whole thing was amateur.
Announcing on a Sunday, a day before UEFA's CL reforn.
Saying there'll be 15 teams when only 12 had signed up. Missing last year's CL finalists.
Giving 5 spots for teams to qualify without specifying how qualication would even work.
Completely misreading fan reaction. Calling fans "legacy fans". Six English clubs and none of them thought people would hate this? They all thought people could be won over by talk of riches. In a pandemic.
Wtf was their strategy?
No details on tv deals, match rules, officiating, etc.
Leading the sales pitch with how much money everyone is going to get, then claiming it's for the better good of the sport.

This was the definition of a clown coup.
Trumpian level stuff, but they didn't realize that football fans don't idolize the presidents of their clubs, but the history of those clubs.

Re: The European Super League Megathread
All of them should resign. no way they can just crawl back to the arms of UEFA as if nothing had happened. Irreparable damage has been done and the only way to get these clubs back in the fans' good graces is if the men responsible for this fiasco step down.

I have a feeling that the news got leaked to journalist who broke it and the clubs panicked and announced it without anything being set up properly.
That or they genuinely wanted to scare UEFA but it massively backfired.
Poor planning and strategy either way.

The lack of details was by design . How do you think people would react to matches in Miami or Singapore? You know they want to

Re: The European Super League Megathread
Seriously.
A unified front offering an alternate governance to the corrupt UEFA and FIFA? Might have worked. Some might have sympathised.
A unified front claiming poverty because of COVID and talking about how much money they'll get and how this money will trickle down and save football? Tough sell, to say the least.

Re: The European Super League Megathread
Perez: “Barcelona are going through a difficult economic situation, Laporta immediately understood and accepted like all the great clubs in the world,” he said.
“This Super League will save the entire world of football. It wasn’t difficult to convince Joan Laporta because he has a responsibility to his club and it’s fans."
He's trying to bring down laporta with him when he took over weeks ago

What a statement. So proud.
And guys lets be real here. Our American owners suck but Berlusconi would be salivating at the prospect of the super league. He would instantly be a vice president of this.
