If they can get Bayern on board, it's bye bye Uefa
so, Bayern resist
Perhaps it's the only hope to delete this sh*t

If Uefa weren't so greedy, this probably would not have happened. Even if it falls through which it won't Uefa will have to take a long hard look at themselves and how they treat the clubs that bring all the money in

Re: The European Super League Megathread
Be prepared to watch Munich Marauders Vs Madrid Mayhem or some shit in twenty years time probably in some American arena like super dome with over enthusiastic American commentators
Honestly the football fans are the reason this is happening. Casuals make up for majority of the football fanbase and most if not all of them are concentrated within these 11-12 super league clubs. These clubs know what drives the viewership. All the casuals and millennials want to see the best play week in week out.
Not everyone is a hardcore football purist. Not everyone is @rincon for example who'd devotedly watch Sassuolo and their band of mediocre Italians play half decent footie on a hot Sunday afternoon. This is more like an exception to the norm.
Football died long ago when state sponsored oil companies started pumping their slave money into European football clubs. It's quite hypocritical to see some of these clubs take a 'stand' now when it's quite obvious they have a much bigger motive on their agenda.
There's no point raging about this now. This was inevitable.

An investment fund financing a closed group of billionaire clubs threatening european football. "The beautiful game".

Re: The European Super League Megathread
Where are Ajax, Porto, Sporting, Benfica, PSV, Shaktar, CSKA, Roma, Napoli, Lyon, Dortmund, etc.
The CL is a GOAT competition partly because of these teams and even smaller ones stepping up to the big matches, also partly because big fixtures are more rare and feel like a big event, always memorable.
The ESL will be good to watch for now but the effects it will have on football are an acceleration of the negative path football is already on.

Re: The European Super League Megathread
Nothing's gonna stop this. The TV deals they are gonna get in America and Asia is gonna dwarf what these teams get now. And with it being a closed league there's no dilemma of losing out CL revenue any more.
adun101 wrote:Lol at all the "football died today" takes. Yeah, football died because there will be no more ManU vs Brighton Cove or Real vs Eibar or whatever. This will hopefully be the first step in making official what is already a reality, that today's football is divided in categories and that they should not be intermingled
Oh please, stick to American sports if you continually want to see the same teams play each other and artificial competition.

The UK government wants to draw up a list of "very solid options" to take action against the six English clubs founding the Super League.
— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) April 19, 2021
One of the options being discussed is the German model with the 50-1 rule.

UEFA, FIFA, PL, Liga, Serie A on the same position: #SuperLeague has been disapproved. No UCL, no domestic leagues for the 12 clubs. #SuperLeague clubs insist they want to play in the domestic leagues too.

Re: The European Super League Megathread
So basically, UEFA is blackmailing the 12, for they're afraid to lose their money for sitting around on their sorry a****.
For the sport itself, football might die with this (true competition). I wouldn't watch afterwards.

you can't be oblivious to the cause-and-effect in this though. If UEFA clamped down harder and more fairer on their financial play promises right from the start this could have been negated.

Artificial competition is still better than no competition. I already see the same teams play each other, at least it will be in games that matter

The Haaland - Raiola & Lensar - Heyman comparison is too good.
