Honestly the football fans are the reason this is happening. Casuals make up for majority of the football fanbase and most if not all of them are concentrated within these 11-12 super league clubs. These clubs know what drives the viewership. All the casuals and millennials want to see the best play week in week out.

Not everyone is a hardcore football purist. Not everyone is @rincon for example who'd devotedly watch Sassuolo and their band of mediocre Italians play half decent footie on a hot Sunday afternoon. This is more like an exception to the norm.

Football died long ago when state sponsored oil companies started pumping their slave money into European football clubs. It's quite hypocritical to see some of these clubs take a 'stand' now when it's quite obvious they have a much bigger motive on their agenda.

There's no point raging about this now. This was inevitable.

We are are gonna get smashed by Leeds tonight considering the 8th spot in the PL just opened up for automatic CL qualification.

We lost to Lyon and Porto, Milan hasn't qualified to CL for years, Inter after finally qualifying to CL gets 4th place in the groups, Spurs is a mostly irrelevant club, Barca is out three getting embarrassed by Roma, United are EL regulars, etc, etc.

Where are Ajax, Porto, Sporting, Benfica, PSV, Shaktar, CSKA, Roma, Napoli, Lyon, Dortmund, etc.

The CL is a GOAT competition partly because of these teams and even smaller ones stepping up to the big matches, also partly because big fixtures are more rare and feel like a big event, always memorable.

The ESL will be good to watch for now but the effects it will have on football are an acceleration of the negative path football is already on.

It was inevitable this was gonna happen. Club owners have been seeing how much money American closed league teams make while having a fraction of football's worldwide fanbase. I didn't expect it to happen this soon or this abruptly though. I was sure it was gonna be this decade and probably after the Qatar World Cup.

Nothing's gonna stop this. The TV deals they are gonna get in America and Asia is gonna dwarf what these teams get now. And with it being a closed league there's no dilemma of losing out CL revenue any more.

The UK government wants to draw up a list of "very solid options" to take action against the six English clubs founding the Super League.

One of the options being discussed is the German model with the 50-1 rule.

ESL is the logical consequence of what UEFA allowed over the past decades. You had Chelseas, Man Cities etc. of this world, then the huge disparaty between the EPL TV money and the rest. In the end, money called the competition more or less. All of it started with Serie A back then when they bought every top talent around the world. If the budget amount is "unlimited" the competition which is the true spirit of any sport is going to die.
So basically, UEFA is blackmailing the 12, for they're afraid to lose their money for sitting around on their sorry a****.
For the sport itself, football might die with this (true competition). I wouldn't watch afterwards.

you can't be oblivious to the cause-and-effect in this though. If UEFA clamped down harder and more fairer on their financial play promises right from the start this could have been negated.
