Totally deserved victory for Atlético..could've been 2-0 if it wasn't for Griezmann's questionable penalty skills.

Bayern was reminiscent of Carlo's Madrid against Atlético: clueless, powerless and stubborn. Carlo's unwillingness to make tweaks to his one-dimensional tactics is the reason he got owned by Simeone almost every time those two met.

Simeone deserves all the credit though. He has built an elite side, tactically impeccable and disciplined, impenetrable like a fortress and, and tonight he has once again proved why he's one of the best tacticians in the world.

It's just a shame that he's classless most of the time, otherwise he would've been in the top 3 of my favorite managers.

While in football x vs y and y vs z comparison doesn't really work, I really doubt city can do what Bayern and Barca struggle to do. Atletico likes those slow teams and hates direct teams.

In fairness City have been quite direct so far this season, kind of impossible to be with the players they have but still.

I have no idea how a match between them and Atletico would pan out but i don't think they play anything like Barca or Bayern for a direct comparison.

It's very hard to beat Atletico at the Calderon. Can't really fault Carlo or Bayern for losing here.

Last season they lost only 3x at home (1x in La Liga to Barca, 1x in Copa to Celta, 1x in CL to Benfica).

In 14-15 they lost only 3x at home (2x in La Liga to Barca and Villarreal, 1x in Copa to Barca).

In 13-14 they lost ONCE at home all season (In Copa to Madrid).

The season before that only 4x.

I don't get this idea about Ribery being finished. He has never been an elite player, if he won the Ballon D'or it would have been the most undeserving since Robben, Muller, Martinez & a few others were much better than him in important games. Ribery has always been a great minnow beater but is not a huge difference maker in key games.

Carlo was bad in this match. Muller is a horrible winger, no speed, no dribbling, poor crosser, poor technically & doesn't even stay wide & give width. He shouldn't be playing as a winger in a 4-3-3. When we are down 0-1, I am against wasting a sub on a CB like Hummels for Boateng of sorts. The Thiago sub was absolutely horrible, he was our only good midfielder & he was subbed off when we needed a goal, I don't buy the Yellow card logic, Thiago is not a DM & we were not defending a goal.

Alonso is too slow & old to play in the CHL in key games & Vidal is bit of an erratic & not the best technically.

The truth is I am not sure if we have the squad for a Semi or Final appearance in CHL unless Robben scores some wonder goals. Lewa is also like Ribery (discount his 4 goals against Madrid) - he has to served everytime & doesn't score against big teams but will score a lot against small teams.

We were thoroughly outplayed, the squad is ageing. We got no replacement for Goetze. I would have brought on Coman for speed n skills in the RW & moved Robben on CAM to utilize his shooting skills & would have taken off Vidal & Alonso. Just keep Thiago with Kimmich if you need a goal.

In the end it could have been 0-3, Torres hit the bar & Griez missed a PK. There needs to be serious introspection. Pep was technically & tactically & quality of football wise a brilliant coach. If Muller had scored the PK in Allianz Arena, we would have played the CHL Final in all likelihood!

Robben was amazing, Both of Muller & Lewa's goals was because of him largely. Decent goal & provided a lot of decent combination & creativity - MOM with a Whoscored rating of 9.6. This is his 3rd goal this month probably.

The midfield has to be sorted despite Kimmich's goals n Thiago's passes. It is not working amazing as a unit especially defensively in a counter attack & a bit creativity wise.

Alonso is way too old n slow to start. I can't believe the board is thinking of giving a contract extension beyond this season. Sanchez is coming into his groove but an elite Creative fast pacy CM with good tactical defensive skill will do a world of good to this team!

Yeah Alonso should be dropped. I like him and don't want to scapegoat him but he's doing too much damage there over 90 minutes.
Problem is it's not clear who can do his job. We have noone like that, though I'd argue Martinez should maybe be tried in midfield again, at least when Vidal's missing.

We need to extend Robben ASAP. What the hell are we waiting for.

One thing also: really, really good game by Müller too. Beautiful performance, wonderful to see him back at the top of his game.

Lewandowski continues to frustrate the hell out of me.

Hummels is a liability.

I wouldn't worry too much at the moment. There's a lot of work to be done.

BTW, what a kick from Neuer and players still cannot figure Robben out even if he does the exact same thing always. Laughing He's just too damned good.

I agree Alonso should be dropped (FFS, even under Guardiola) but Sanches is not ready yet. Should have holded on to Hobjberg.

PEH is not Bayern quality unfortunately, getting 15M off him was an absolute steal. Same with Rode who is a mid-table talent & 15M off was an amazing sale.

Bayern have the money & have not spend much with sales paying most of the incoming transfers. I think Bayern need to buy a Top CM(Alonso replacement) in the Winter.

Next Summer -

Alonso Out, New CAM in
New Top RB as a long term Lahm replacement

We have to spend to sort out the midfield & RB now. Otherwise I am sure that in 2018( assuming 1 Year Robbery extension) when we have to replace both of Robbery (& if we need people better than Costa-Coman), we have to spend 100-120 M atleast.

You can't buy Top RB, Top CM, 2 Wingers etc at the same time. We are not City or United & won't have 200-250 M to spend!

If we go for a 3 Man midfield in big matches, I would rather see -

Ribery/Costa Muller Robben

This is because Robben & Muller has just electric chemistry & a good understanding & link-up well.

I think we should just got a 4-4-2 type formation -

Ribery/Costa Muller Lewa Robben
Thiago Vidal

This will be difficult to pull off against teams like Barca or Madrid though where we need a 3 Man midfield!
