You're right: Sevilla does have the option fixed and ready, but just like with regular release clauses, the final decision lies with the player. If he proves his worth and we promise him a regular spot along with a huge pay rise, he may still wanna be part of the more prestigious club, also taking into account our new management, ambition, project, etc.

Now I am normally not in favor of signing 32 year old players... But he could be better than Montolivo. When a player is a free agent they can sign for a team even after a transfer window is closed.
