Re: US Presidential Race
Both are just awful candidates and if this is the final 2 in the running for President of the USA the whole system is shit.
But, for banters purpose i'd pick Trump.

I would want to see Trump just for banter if it was another country, but the US impacts all of us too much. Can't have that happening.

If it was anybody but Trump I would probably be down with doing the same, but he would literally the worst thing to happen to this country since Full House.

I like what Hillary represents more than I like her.
I like Bernie more than I like what he represents.
Any other contest, outside of president, and I go Bernie all day. I wasn't picking who I'd rather play MLB the show 17 with, but who I'd think would lead the country better. Thats just where it went between them.
I don't like Hillary though, and voted against her(happily) in 08. She'd do, or say, anything to get elected.

Sounds fair enough.
Right on cue, the FBI reopens the investigation of Hillary
Edit didn't see rg mentioned it

It's always been a popularity contest masquerading as a presidential race.

Has it ever NOT been a popularity contest? I've lived through the 92,96,00,04,08,12, and now 16 elections and in this time its always been a popularity contest.
I wasn't paying attention in 92(mostly because I was a toddler), but definitely remember 96 and 00. Where Dole was categorized as a dinosaur, and Gore as a bore, during the elections. The guy who won has always been, at least during my life, a guy people would rather have a beer with.
Dukakis and Bush in 88 might be an exception to this, but meh I wasn't around at that point

Trump 2016
If Trump was just able to keep it light hearted he probably would be doing better in the polls at this stage. He had to break that light-hearted persona to win the republican nomination though.
Would I want to have a beer with a guy who jokes about grabbing women by the pussy? Probably, but thats because I am guy who grew up hearing(and laughing) at conversations like that. Its crass, but its what I have experienced.
Would I want to grab a beer with a guy who wouldnt rent apartments to black people and thinks immigrants who come here are mexico's trash? Eh, Not so much.
You don't get to be a lovable oath by being THAT kind of bigot. Maybe a crazy uncle who you stay away from at best.

What president would I most want to have a beer with...hmm.
Obama is an easy choice. Bill Clinton would be good fun. JFK also good. I would probably go with Bill.

JFK for being the original star president who had a new woman every week.
Buchanan for being the only bachelor president. Heard he got it turnt up in the white house(But with guys)
and Reagan since being with a movie star, no matter how insane, would be a good party time.

I think they were temporary shutdowns, and it was for people inciting rebellion against a nation already in civil war.

Obama seems like the only US president in history I could actually have a conversation with. Huge sports and music fan, so that's something.

Nothing was reopened though. The new mails had nothing to do with Hillary.
The additional mails "a device" from an unrelated investigation led to the discovery of additional emails not from Clinton"

96 and 00 were on the periphery of my awareness. I knew of Dukakis, Clinton, Gore and Bush the same way kids these days know of the current candidates. They're just names and faces, not much more.
The "likability" factor that keeps getting trotted out during elections is literally the metric that measures popularity. While it happens to be a major factor, it isn't always a defining one. I recall in 08 many who voted against Obama citing that they thought he was a very likable guy (who they'd probably have a beer with if he wasn't running for president), but ultimately felt McCain was more qualified, despite being less likable.
So while it's overall a popularity contest overall, there are many who actually don't look at it that way.

Re: US Presidential Race
I disagree that its so much of a popularity contest, this election particularly has showed the opposite.
Almost no one likes Hillary Clinton in terms of character, she is extremely unpopular as a person. Yet she beat Sanders who is the opposite, no one hates him for who he is, but people couldn't get behind all his left wing policies. If it was a popularity contest Clinton would have finished last.
Even Trump I think is the same thing, scandal after scandal he hung there and won the nomination because his message was unique. Its all bullshit of course, but his claims about "making america great again", sticking it to corporations, bringing manufacture jobs back to america, controlling borders, etc. speak to a lot of people. If he wasn't so disliked (i.e. unpopular) by so many people, he could very well win.
Obama winning is much more of a measure of popularity, a lot of people wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what his convictions are in terms of politics, but everyone will tell how likable and a cool-guy he is.

Re: US Presidential Race
This election itself is the exception and not the rule though. What is up and is down, what is left is right.....I mean we do have conservatives actually voting for Hillary....this is just not a normal election so the normal fare of popularity logically won't apply here.
However, just about other elections before this one were absolutely popularity contests in all, but name. That's just the way US elections are unfortunately. If you can talk the talk and look good while doing it...few will care whether you can walk the walk until it actually comes to time to do so. Our best presidents have been able to back that up when they need to, the others well.....no one remembers them now.

It's happening guys, and this poll was conducted before the FBI reopening investigation. would be hilarious if Hillary fails to beat him, Trump is literally the weakest candidate GOP could ever put.

Could be said Clinton is one of the weakest candidates the Democrats have put up in some time as well. Even without the e-mail scandal, she would've still be rather beatable if the GOP had the right candidate.
