I'm not arguing for the punishment. I was just translating the article. This is bad for Juve since Dybala isn't fit but most likely will end up playing.

Argentina won 2005 in La Paz.

Still without Messi, Bolivia +1 doubles your money quite safely.
Odds were shit for +1, +0.75 was the bet last night, but odds have plummeted on that too. Argentina is now value though.

Messi deserved a ban, but four games is ridiculous.

He insulted the linesman, not the ref. Hence the ref didn't hear it.

He should definitely get punished for it, 4 games though seems excessive when you barely ever get 3 for a potentially career ending tackle.

Taylor gets 2 match ban for double fracture tackle, Fakenaldo gets 0 games for telling the referee "*bleep* you", Neymar gets 3 games for not only insulting the referee, but also grabbing him and the referee actually reporting the incident. Here comes Messi, gets 4 games from insulting the ref based on lip reading from a video that somebody sent to Fifa. I mean omg if that doesn't prove relative bias against Messi for even the smallest brains, nothing does.

Didn't Medel and another Chilean player get 4 games for insulting the ref last year in the qualifiers too?

I believe those were 3+1 from 1 coming from referee giving a red from a foul.

Argentina with Messi in WCQ18 15 points in 6 games, without 7 points in 8 games.

The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club III - Page 17 3At1RsV

Brazil without Pele won the World Cup, Argentina without Maradona won back to back Copa Americas, Argentina without Messi can't even freaking qualify to World Cup. Puts Messi carrying them in three major finals really into perspective.

I forgot who was the other player but Medel definitely got sent off and suspended for 4 games just for insulting the ref last year, not for a foul. Its the same punishment.

It was double yellow/red and 3 from insulting the ref https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNvybFfu_gU

Still far cry from freaking lip reading it from a video.

3 games for insult (for which he also received a red) and 1 for yellow accumulation:

Estuvo sancionado con Bolivia, está sancionado con Ecuador por dos amarillas, Perú y Colombia. Cumple contra Colombia”, informó el técnico de La Roja en una conferencia de prensa. De esta manera, el jugador de Inter podrá volver frente a Uruguay, en noviembre.

Lmao I just put Medel Paraguay expulsion to youtube and got that. Well there's another link just below mine. Then again Fakenaldo got 0 games from doing the same as Medel here.

Funny thing here is that referees didn't report anything, nor do that say what was the actual insult. In relation Neymar got just 3 matches when he went absolutely beserk in the last Copa America. I've to conclude that Fifa actually wants Argentina out of World Cup, which could be because AFA is corrupt, but who knows. Fifa is also open supporter of Fakenaldo, and Perez may have ties in the decision committee, which might be the cause of this. All in all quite surreal that you get 4 match ban from an unknown insult, when referees didn't even report you. Never heard anything like that in my life.
The politics behind Messi's suspension.

Four games is incredibly harsh, and wouldn't be so only if this started being the standard punishment and Messi is the example to be made of. I could see them starting to crack down on this kind of behavior though, so I'm curious to see if we'll start seeing this more often.

Speech of Referee and his 3 assistance..

Sandro Ricci: "I did not hear any offensive language from Messi ... If I had heard any offensive words, I would have acted according to the rules of the game."

Emerson Carvalho (first assistant): "After a foul committed by Messi, who was next to me, at the end of the game, I saw that he complained against that fault by raising his hands and saying something that I did not understand at the time."

Marcelo do Cavalho (second assistant): "I did not hear any offensive language from Messi".

Dewson Freitas da Silva (third assistant): "I have not heard and I did not see anything in relation to this fact".

Graham Poll: (ex ref)

A FIFA disciplinary committee has watched video evidence and decided to impose the ban, which I believe is against the laws of the game.

The incident occurred in full view of the assistant who was abused and therefore the decision of the active match officials should stand (Which it was not).

If a player strikes an opponent out of view of all active officials, then a retrospective ban should be imposed. This sanction seems at odds with that.

I still don't understand how they can use lip reading as a proof, as you can almost put any words in there you like. What next player mutters "*bleep* you" looking at the ref from the bench, 4 match ban after angry fan sends the amateur video evidence and picture of Fakenaldo in a envelope to Fifa committee?
