Even when he has a bad game and gets dispossessed tons, he has a good game in my eyes. Still manages to make that game changing goal or assist.

Lionel messi should retired honorably tbh..
Just look at the way Neymar and co toyed with the Arg NT like it was some training ground session. Could have been like 6-0 if not for complacency on brazil's part

Those two are the same age as me or younger, yet they're confident that they know who the best football player in history is.

They can't have an opinion? It's not like you can't check these players out, and it's not like it's not fairly obvious.Thimmy wrote:Harmonica wrote:Vitolo - "To me, Leo Messi is the best player in history of football."

Most people on the internet have an opinion on the matter so why get salty when actual legit players make a statement?

The only one who's salty here is you. I don't know what "actual-legit-players" is. Of course, people are entitled to have their opinions. I think there's a difference between having an opinion and claiming that someone is the greatest of all time, however. The source that Harmonica referred to seems a lot more credible than the random athletes these days, who whimsically claim that something is the best ever. I have great respect for Messi's immense talent and accomplishments, and I have no doubt in my mind that he's one of the greatest players to have ever graced the sport. But it generally irks me when people casually throw out a "x is the best, ever" claim, as if deciding such a thing was no big deal. It happens in all different kinds of sports, but yeah.. I don't know why people do it.
Kebab: What the hell? All I know about Maradona is that he's a fat bastard who wasted his youth and career by abusing coke. I'm not old enough, and I don't possess the knowledge to determine whether or not he was relevant in the context of being the best at anything.

Lionel Messi pays team security guards after Argentina fails to.

Scorer, playmaker, defender, scout, coach, manager and now a bank, can Messi carry them anymore than that?

Re: The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club III
The FIFA Puskás Award is an award established on 20 October 2009 by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), at the behest of former president Sepp Blatter, in order to award the player, male or female, judged to have scored the most aesthetically significant, or "most beautiful", goal of the year.
The award has nothing to do with importance of the goal. Friendly, final, qualification -- DOES NOT MATTER.

Why are you quoting wikipedia? From Fifa 2016 Puskas Award Rules of allocation:Myesyats wrote:The FIFA Puskás Award is an award established on 20 October 2009 by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), at the behest of former president Sepp Blatter, in order to award the player, male or female, judged to have scored the most aesthetically significant, or "most beautiful", goal of the year.

Art. 2 The Award rewards the best goal scored during the period from 30 September 2015 to 30 September 2016 inclusive, regardless of championship, gender or nationality.
Importance is obviously part of it, and even if it wasn't, aesthetically it's definitely up there.
Now go away, this is grown up talk, and I'm the man.

??? "Regardless of championship"
I think that settles it...
I am a fanboi of Messi too but that goal was a regular freekick.
Messi is in the shortlist by default for some reason and you can't explain it logically.

Re: The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club III
The puskas award is already dangerously prepared for messi, seeing as he's incapable of ever winning such an award by himself.
Even in 2007 he probably would have lost out too.
Nothing to see here
This is probably the most ugly puskas nominated goal of all time
