Munich Amok Rampage

Is anyone else a bit concerned at the ages of these attackers? 17 year old Afghani kid. 18 year old this guy. Maybe young minds are easily influenced?

Not the first young man in Germany to go on a killing spree. We had school shootings before, this time it was another place but that seems to be the only difference right now.

I think this is more a sign of the hopelessness some young men in that age feel when they only went to a 'Hauptschule' (lowest form of secondary school) and possibly left with a bad or no 'Hauptschulabschluss' (Certificate of Secondary Education) and thus got no apprenticeship (and dozens of negative answers to their applications) and had to apply for social welfare benefits (he stated he lived in an area where mostly Hartz IV receivers lived). These people have no money and only barely get by and thus they get more and more annoyed at the society and people who have more than them.

AFAIK in France there are whole areas where unemployed people of second, third etc generation migrant background live who don't get any work and thus have a lot of time at their hands, are poor and frustrated. Such areas certainly breed aggression and this can explode once in a while with violence against people who are better off.

Many terrorists have been highly educated. It's wrong that only (or mostly) poorly educated or dumb people become terrorists (or criminals or spree killers).

Well, in the case of the Munich killer, it seems that he comes from that lower class environment, at least if that video is indeed to be considered genuine.

Right extremists in Germany usually come from this background, too.

I don't know about the killer, from what I heard they only said there were problems connected to his education but that could mean anything.

Many right wing extremists are highly educated aswell. I know you think of the Glatzen in Springerstiefeln when talking about right wing extremists but sadly that's only a part of the group.
Racism transcends every class of society and I very often get the feeling that highly educated people are trying to tell themself they can't be part of the problem because only the lower classes and uneducated masses are prone to racism and other shit like that.

Looks like this guy was simply a very disturbed and mentally unstable person. It appears to me as if he was looking for his 5 minute of terrible "fame" as the police found newspaper clippings of other killing sprees in schools etc in his rooms.

Certainly there can be high educated racists and criminal idiots, too, but lack of education and money can easily lead to frustration and thus aggression, and these groups unfortunately can be easily manipulated then.

The former are worshipped as martyrs in their circles and their families usually receive quite some money, IIRC.

IMO one of the problems in case of the latter is that the media coverage is so extensive and the names of the killers are mentioned sooner or later. That way the guys who run amok and who are losers who would never be noticed otherwise, know that their names will be mentioned and not forgotten for years to come.

Kid was in psychically ill and was obsessed with earlier amok runners, among them Breivik. Apparenlty he hade been collecting books and articles to the Winnenden thing, Breivik etc. So the anniversary date might probably play a role, but it doesn't sound like it can be called a politically motivated right wing terror act.
Apparently the kid even had a book where a psychologists analyses what drove and motivated the Winnenden amok runner.
Apart from that, no priors, nothing special. No religious connection either.

Victims are mostly kids with a 'migration backround' (guess that's because of the area), a few from Kosovo, some with Turkish and Greek background. One family lost 3 kids in the attack.
The killer had tried to invite kids via a fake fb post and account to the McDonalds restaurant at the given time.

They do it to earn Wikipedia pages for themselves imo

Total '90s throwback in the media right now, going on about the kid playing Counter-Strike, and I'm here thinking, without video games, he would've had zero friends instead of few, and probably blown up much earlier.

It was typical to do it also in USA, when Marylin Manson or Ramstein couldn't blamed as moral guilties . When a negative phenomenon is frequent (it's not the case of Germany though) ,the society goes to search for new witches to point at ... because it can't point at itself.

Funnily, despite usually being a pompous, self-absorbed ass, Marilyn Manson gave an awesome interview in Bowling for Columbine, basically hit all the notes. Might be a jackass, but is not a stupid man.

I just saw that politician on TV who said "The kid in Munich played Counter Strike and other ego shotters. It is a fact that all amok killers played Counter Strike" - and of course it looks as if they really want to start talks about banning these games again. *sighs*

In my eyes the causality is not that the people get amok ideas through the games, but rather that they already have some ideas and play these games to have a channel for their aggression, but only for the really deranged nutjobs this doesn't suffice anymore after some time and they turn to real people.

It doesn't matter. The industry is too big for anyone to actually ban games. It just won't happen and shouldn't be taken serious.
