Hope we start Sturridge tomorrow instead of Kane.

Have a bad feeling about Wales. They aren't a better team than us in terms of quality as they only have 2 genuine quality players. But their team spirit, cohesion and mentality is 5 times better than ours.

Hopefully we can get the first goal early. Wales got a win already so they won't mind a draw

Hodgson gone. Stabilised things after Capello left, got some young players into the team, but ultimately failed to produce when it mattered.

No idea who takes over from here. Wouldn't mind Southgate tbh - he's done a great job with the U21s.

Because he was one of Hodgson's assistants. Don't think he's a serious candidate but his name will come up because he's in the set-up. Likewise Southgate, but at least Southgate has spent the last five or so years with the U21s and is a far better manager.

If England want an English manager their options are:

Harry Redknapp
Sam Allerdyce
Alan Pardew
Eddie Howe
sean Dyche
Steve Bruce

As they're the only English managers managing or have managed in the PL Laughing

Has to be Southgate. Neville would have been my pick but his stunt at Valencia has put a bit of doubt.

Need to be progressive so we need a manager who isn't an old donkey.

Wouldn't mind someone foreign either.

Any new manager needs the balls to drop Rooney, first and foremost. This isn't to scapegoat Rooney but the guy's done as a striker and he has no place in midfield.

Second job will be to somehow build a competent defence and functional midfield. Good luck with that.

Rooney has given his all. It's not even his fault he is finished. Hopefully he retires.

But a new manager does indeed need to build on a fresh approach. It's not even to do with the talent. Look at teams like Wales, Iceland, Switzerland and Croatia. They play with such good understanding and actually play as a team. You wouldn't think they are a NT with the cohesion some of those teams play compared to us.

I can't remember an England side in my lifetime that played as a team rather than a group of individuals. Maybe 2004 was the last time. It's been downhill ever since. And it's getting worse n worse.

We need a manager who can build not just the team externally, but internally as well. Unfortunately I can't see that happening. Maybe it's PL to blame. Maybe there really is a sense of internal rivalry at club level which goes with the players internationally and they can never link up the same way. Or maybe it's just bad coaching.

When was the last time we had a good manager?

It's upsetting to take another failure knowing it could have been a lot better...

Someone (from England preferably) has to explain why is it so hard for a manager to drop Rooney. If Rooney were playing for, let's say, Trinidad, then yes, dropping him would have been near impossible. But England really really really should not have an issue like this particularly for a guy who really supposed to be dropped since last year.

What decent international sides realise is that the national team isn't a team of the year. Just look at the pressure Hodgson was under to get Vardy, Kane and Rooney into the same team because Kane and Vardy had great seasons and how it screwed up whatever balance the team had. Look at how Walker and Rose suddenly became starting full backs over the regular starters, or how Alli just walked into the starting line-up.

It's like managers forget the basic fundamentals of football. To be successful you need a functional team that's greater than the sum of its parts. If that means leaving out a "star" player than so be it. If it means picking a lesser talented player then so be it. I don't rate guys like Delph and Henderson but they would have been tonnes better than Rooney in that midfield. If you have a working system you pick the players to make the system work. Instead, Hodgson just picked the best players with no real system in mind and right up to the eve of the tournament had no clue what the best team or approach was.

Compare this to every other nation in this tournament, who go in prepared, knowing their best team and formation. It's a joke.

Because the media and pundits still believe Rooney is a world class player and dropping him outright would have created a shitstorm. Hodgson by his nature is a conservative coach. He was never going to make that big call even though he had every justification to do so.

It's just a classic case of a player being bigger than the manager.

You definitely need a better goalie who has a more modern style of playing, too. Joe Hart just doesn't cut it for England.

You mentioned Switzerland - they did not just play as a cohesive team, they also have a goalie who is good with the ball at his feet and who does rescue the Nati matches with his saves.

Joe Hart on the other hand manages to lose matches by fumbling the ball into his goal. No

Couldn't have said that any better Jay

The pressure to play Kane and Vardy upfront. It's almost like the media forced Roy to only play 2 formations. Roy is the manager. Not Rio Ferdinand or Jermaine Jenas.

Throughout our qualifying round we had Henderson and Wilshere as the two pivotal midfielders. I am not even the biggest Henderson fan but that guy has done far far more than the likes of Alli and Dier. And specially Rooney. Why did he get dropped all of a sudden lol? I can understand Wilshere didn't have match practise but it really is baffling how Roy picked the team based on PFA TOTY.

Absolutely baffling.

Dele Alli lost the ball more times than any other player at the Euros.

I'll cut him some slack because he's a young player coming off his first season at the top level, and England have misused him. But I also hope the ridiculous amount of hype that's been surrounding him calms down now so he can focus on improving as a player because he's clearly very talented.

i'm not sure many expected much from this england side, i think people are more outraged that they got knocked out by iceland and not just that they got knocked out. the side's just not good enough, them progressing to further rounds would have been an over-achievement.

We need to stop blaming the media tbh.

It's part of the problem but not the only problem and far from the biggest issue.

EVERY SINGLE PLAYER were making dumb decisions and were thicker than the average job centre goer, that's not something which can be pinned on Roy Hodgson or the media.

How we develop players is all wrong and pretty much every single one seem to have the IQ of a rabbit, actually no that would be unfair to the rabbit.
