Yeah I actually think the last round of group games has been the best. We did have the Slovakia game that was spoiled but for the rest of the games this format has actually helped, because everyone is still alive and all trying to win. Better than having most of the games be dead rubbers for one or more teams.

Great game today but then again case in point - it was a furious end to end game until 15 minutes before the end finally the coin dropped with the players that they all advance without doing anything further, last quarter was a snooze fest Laughing

I like this format . The group phase is like a pre-tournament . No teams is definitely out even after 2 games. Now the real competition starts.

Besides it being confusing to the point of Lineker having to lend a copy of the format to Shearer to take home and study, it's such a refreshing change. You see teams actually trying now as opposed to resigning to a thrashing, finishing 3rd and being eliminated straight away

Yeah that's what I like about it. No one is definitely out even after 2 games. '' Small teams '' give their all and the elimination phase has one extra match. All fun. Just waiting for the stars to shine.

Agreed completely. Also made for allot of under dogs to play 100% in all 3 matches, and allot of them actually advanced because of it. I'm all for the under dogs, makes for great stories as oppose to the same 2-3 teams always winning it.

No shot on target. Not happened in a major tourno since 1980.

We're deep into 2nd half of extra time.

Basically both teams have decided to play for pens from the off.

This match is perhaps the worst I've seen in an international competition.

"But but but it'll pick up in the knock out stages"

Croatia are such flops. Had they decided to take the game to Portugal and not play like pussies, they would have beaten them comfortably . They only decided to play in the last 5 minutes- too little, too late.

about the matches --- yes, many are boring
for the rest, the positive factor is the uncertainty.
Every match looks like unpredictable. Croatia to win the group against Spain , Portugal to win zero matches against Iceland, Hungary - Austria, but then Portugal knocks out Croatia. And it's just an example.

I can't say I wasn't surprised either but I was very happy with the way Italy started the game. Really showed their intentions from the moment the game began
