He should get a massive amount of credit. NT KO performances were the one thing missing from his CV. He has delivered 2 great performances in the knockouts. The freekick was sublime and he gets extra credit for doing so in the SF of a major tournament.
If he can deliver in the final, he will have answered the valid criticism of a lot of people(including me) who questioned his GOAT standing without delivering for the NT.
Anyone who questions the legitimacy of the Copa shouldnt be taken seriously. The competition is tough as nails and the refereeing is a throwback to earlier days. The star players get very less protection and consequently it is difficult to shine.

finally you praised messi without any criticism. star players getting less protection is a major problem in south america. they act as a tough guy, i have seen referee refusing to take photo with messi before the game, because he is a tough guyalexjanosik wrote:He should get a massive amount of credit. Brazil is hosting the event, and they have never won the football tournament before. Is that not a legitimate reason?
Isn't that just more of an incentive for them and for Neymar to try and win it, if they do take the tournament seriously?
That's why Neymar is being called-up. They ARE taking it seriously. The media, players, and fans are all saying the Olympics is the priority.Thimmy wrote:Why would he be criticized? He's been dominating the tournament. It would be really odd for anyone to criticize him if they don't win it.
Why would he be criticized? The same way he was criticized when he lost the Copa in 2015, and WC in 2014.
"Can't carry Argentina"
"Isn't a leader"
"LOL isn't even worthy of licking Maradona's boots"
If he wins:
"WC is where it's at"
"Where was he last year and 2 years ago"
The WC really is where it's at, in my opinion. Messi still has a WC left in him, and his national team is one of the best in the world, regardless of how much people on here like to blame his team mates for being sub-par and cramping his style

Will he ever win it, though? I think he's more likely to win the next GOAT, "tough as nails" Copa America, which would effectively place him ahead of Diego Maradona in the history books, because past players were in shitty physical condition and only ever ate dog food.. when they weren't busy being overrated by our grandfathers

Where was he last year and two years ago? Probably making sure that he didn't have to pay taxes

What is so funny? Watch the games instead of posting stupid photographs. The final was tough as nails and Messi was offered very little protection.
Compare that to the game going on right now. Very soft game and referee calling foul for contacts that would be laughed away in the Copa.
