It's not like they regressed SO much the competition went from a 9 to 6.5. They did put 7 past Mexico. They have grown in this competition.

And of course it's not the same as against Chile in Chile, but even then they didn't beat us, it went to pens.

I just don't see this noticeable drop in quality.

He should get a massive amount of credit. NT KO performances were the one thing missing from his CV. He has delivered 2 great performances in the knockouts. The freekick was sublime and he gets extra credit for doing so in the SF of a major tournament.
If he can deliver in the final, he will have answered the valid criticism of a lot of people(including me) who questioned his GOAT standing without delivering for the NT.
Anyone who questions the legitimacy of the Copa shouldnt be taken seriously. The competition is tough as nails and the refereeing is a throwback to earlier days. The star players get very less protection and consequently it is difficult to shine.
