They probably want a coach who is good at knockout cup competitions because at this point even PSG's president is a qualified enough coach to win Ligue 1 with this side.

Also probably why they're pretty desperate to sign Morata.

They've reached CL quarters for 4 straight years and knocked Chelsea out twice in elimination rounds.  I don't think that was the problem.  The issue was injuries and suspensions...   Ibra, Verratti, Matuidi and Motta couldn't stay available.  They lost to City because over half the starting 11 was injured for the second leg including the entire starting midfield.

Some bad luck there and showed a lack of depth.

That was the only bad loss...  losing to Mou's Chelsea under the away goal rule and twice to Barca is nothing to be ashamed about.

To me, Morata is being signed for depth to cover for Cavani.  He's not being pursued to be a starter...  not in a million years.

@Nick...  under Rafa, if we played a healthy PSG in elimination rounds... we lose.  With Zidane, that changed even if they were healthy.  With the way Rafa disregarded the center of the pitch and PSG flooded that area, I didn't see us getting lucky again to win against them.

i am not entering the woulda coulda shoulda discussion, we played them, we beat them, and we too had injuries. How do you know we would have lost? no one knows

Morata to PSG for depth Do you even realize the possibility of other destinations other than Juventus are mentioned purely because he's not been able to lock down a starting spot at Juve?
He's got no business trading the Juventus bench for the PSG bench.

We beat them with our b-team when we were out of form ffs.At the same point City were killing it in the league.

This feels like an odd move to me, in that there's nothing Emery offers that Blanc doesn't already besides an insane attention to detail. If PSG's aim is to still play an attractive brand of football, then Emery isn't the right guy, because he'll happily compromise style for the sake of results.

Their aim is to have success in europe, and their president feels as though blanc is responsible for losing against city due to not preparing the team enough on a MENTAL and ATTITUDE level. That's why his first aim was to bring Simeone but he is not leaving madrid. next in line is someone who has proven to be successful multiple times in european cups in Emery.

Unless Cavani starts delivering some 2011-13 performances next year , Morata will walk into that starting 11 .

He's not much different to Cavani except that he's less prolific and delivers in big games

No way this Morata starts over Cavani.He's still very unpolished.

The fact that PSG relies entirely on their midfield for their play....  and a half-fit Motta with no Matuidi or Verratti...  is not an excuse.  It's just fact.  They couldn't play their style and Blanc tried to implement a new style just for that game and it failed.  It was just awful luck.  

Imagine all of BBC or MSN missing for Madrid/Barca.

I mean come on S... remember early in the season when Juve were basically in last place because Marchisio and Khedira were missing?  Same thing.  Injuries will kill you.  But if you have them, it would be good to have a little time to adapt.  PSG got all the injuries just for the City game and a couple of league games around that tie.  Never had a chance to figure out alternative ways to play.

Blanc is no master motivator though... so having an easy league season didn't help to keep them sharp. Mourinho was needed and his way of creating stress out of nothing

We won the CL two years ago with the BBC being half injured, heck we did the same this year with only bale acting like he cared. Winning is also very much about will and team spirit, PSG got none of that. Losing to City was an embarrassment however you want to put it, and you are right, it's not an excuse, it's a fact they are not that good. City also had plenty of injuries and players half fit coming back, still won.

Not to mention City were on holiday mode after Pep's announcement

Even their fans treat Europe as a bonus ffs Its a choke,simple as.They still had Ibra,Di Maria and the likes on the pitch who are match-winners on their day but they were mostly made to look redundant.

Unai will fail miserably. There is nobody who can motivate a team that walk their league.

If the Qataris are ambitious, they should sell PSG and buy a proper club in a proper league.

Half injured isn't full injured  We always had 2 of BBC on the pitch.  Imagine NONE of them. OR take it even further... imagine Casemiro, Kroos and Modric all injured. How far do you think we'd get???

Matuidi made the terrible mistake for the city goal.

If there is one player who has looked very poor in two of his biggest game ever that is matuidi. In world cup against Germany and now cl against City.

Estadio Deportivo reporting that Emery to PSG is close and could be official in a couple of days. ABC report that Emery is currently considering a "dizzying offer", and has told Sevilla he will only leave if he receives a ridiculous offer (he rejected Everton and AC Milan before this).
