That scoreline was misleading. Ukraine were playing very well, or Germany kinda shaky.

Goddamn is Lahm missed. Hector was kinda lame, but I guess he's finding his footing considering his limited NT experience. But bro, the flanks got teared up run by run. The midfield was overrun.

Kroos was on fire, but he cannot hold the midfield by himself. Khedira is decent, but is not the player he used to be and if you're gonna have balance, you need a more tactical player in that role. Khedira was just run and run and run... No, not Schwein-Kroos. That's a disaster and much more with Schwein not having the legs. Get Weigl in there FFS. Maaaybe Kimmich.

Bench Goetze. You don't need Goetze with Oezil in there. Get another direct player to complement Mueller.

Boateng and Neuer are beasts, but we all know that. Mustafi did the job, but he's definitely no Hummels.

Germany played smartly if unspectacularly in the 2nd half. Kept the ball and made Ukraina chase it, in the end the yellows didn't have enough gas in the tank to mount a proper fight back.

Ukraina should play Yarmolenko and Konoplaynka closer together. They're their two best players but they never see each other due to being on opposite flanks. They'd be more dangerous combining together.

Gotze as striker is not a very good idea imo. Actually it's kinda retarded.

To be fair to Germany's wide players re: their flanks being "torn up", if there is one thing Ukraine have, it's talented wide players. Yarmolenko and Knoployanka have been legit since Euro '12 lol. Or at least they always play like it internationally

Spot on.

It really is. Just like playing Höwedes as RB against Ukraine's quick wingers. Or like playing Höwedes AT ALL.

But what can you expect from a guy who fingers his ball to smell his fingers in front of a multi million audience No

Such a shame that Löw shuns Gladbach's players. After all, André Hahn and Patrick Herrmann are pretty useful wide players, too.

Though to be fair to Löw, whom I've not liked for 6 years now, the tactical adjustments for the 2nd half were spot on. We were very solid after the break.

I actually think Götze as a false 9 can work, I just think against most teams Gomez is the better choice. If you absolutely have to play Götze, sacrifice Özil for him, or force him on the wing.

And I do love Götze. But come on, he's absolutely lost up there. And we hoofed the ball a lot, Gomez could've done something with that.

Also:
Bastian Schweinsteiger Fußballgott.

Low should try Gotze on the left and Gomez upfront. Can't get the best out of Ozil without a CF in front of him.

Kapustka is a winger and Zieliński is a CM /AM so...no, that's not the reason why Zieliński is benched

Krychowiak and Mączyński occupy Centre mid and they are better than Zieliński

André Hahn was injured for a while - but when he came back on matchday 27, he scored 6 goals in 8 matches (and he only played 9 minutes and 7 minutes in two of these games), one of them the equalizer against Bayern.

As for Patrick Herrmann - he was injured for a while, too, but I think you should take a look at him in the upcoming season ^^

And Kompot lol Smile

Looks like Kapustka will play behind Lewandowski against Germany. Milik out on the left wing

Błaszczykowski might not play unfortunately. Grosicki in his place.

Off to watch the game with a Polish-born friend in a Polish club called "Club of Polish Losers" https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_der_polnischen_Versager . Sounds an apt name for tonight Proud
