Catching up on Game of Thrones Empty Catching up on Game of Thrones

Post by rincon Wed Jun 01, 2016 3:04 pm

I'm finally watching game of thrones after reading the first 3 books.

Have to say I'm enjoying reading all your guys comments on the GOT TV show threads Thumbs up  its the only place where I can go see people's reactions without being spoiled at this point. I've been reading them as I watch the episodes to see opinions and theories and stuff for the moment since everyone I know that watches it is already in season 6, so its like a time capsule. Keep it guys!

I finished season 4

Its gonna be hard reading book 4 and 5 and watching season 5 simultaneously according to events. I suggest you read the combined version of book 4 and 5. If you own the books you can follow the chapter reading order given here. http://ballofbeasts.weebly.com/chapters.html

I'm done with the books for a while, focused on the show. I'll go back to the books once Martin starts releasing new ones.

The best scene in the show so far for me. Oberyn's actor was amazing, the way he kept escalating his anger as he beats the mountain was perfect.

 now I'm pissed he died again. He had become my favorite character throughout the season.

I didn't like Catelyn and while I did like Robb their deaths didn't hit me as hard. Oberyn's and Ned's deaths have been the worst. At least with Ned you kinda see it coming since he is just too trusting for Kings Landing. Although I did believe he was gonna be sent to the wall.

With Oberyn it was the opposite after the fight starts I actually bought into his extreme confidence that he was gonna win Sad

The man comes to Kings Landing, taunts and insults the Lannisters like no one else, bangs everyone in sight, becomes a judge in regicide, earns a seat in the small council, publicly accuses Tywin of his crimes, shows off the best fighting skills we've seen by far and actually beats the mountain

Oberyn's death is one of the two hardest deaths for me in tv ever. The other being the death in The Wire

I'm on season 5 ep 2 now.

Its sad to lose a character as good as Tywin but he had to be brought down, good that it was Tyrion. Now I'm waiting for him to stop wallowing and do some shit with Varys (my favorite character now).

Arya's and Bran's plots are what I'm into the most now. I can't tolerate Cercei.

The wall stuff is great too but I expect things to calm down since we just had the awesome battle at the end of season 4.

Jaime and Bronn together in Dorne has tons of potential to be great. I wanna see what kinda havoc the Dornishmen will cause now.

Catching up on Game of Thrones Empty Re: Catching up on Game of Thrones

I'm in season 5 episode 7

This season (5) is significantly calmer in terms of pace and happenings. It was expected since the explosion that was the end of season 4 I guess.

Bronn and Jamie in Dorne is indeed awesome and brings some humor to the show (I felt that the books had a lot more humor in it).

Arya's plot is still the most interesting for me, she just entered the hall with all the faces in the wall and was told she was "not ready to be no one, but ready to be someone else". This faceless men are awesome so far.

The rest of the stories mostly piss me off. Winterfell is just one long depressing story, why in the world did Sansa trust Littlefinger  . That in itself makes me not feel so bad for her, she voluntarily went there to marry a Bolton... just  .

I hope Stannis puts an end to all the nonsense but its GOT so you never know. He is 1000000% who I'd choose as king, I've been fanboying him since I read A Clash of Kings.

Kings Landing got a million times less interesting without Tywin, Olenna, Tyrion, Varys, Jaime and Oberyn. Talk about a stellar cast leaving that story. Now its just Cercei (who I can't stand) self-destructing her house, the throne and herself just cause she is too shortsighted and narsicistic to know better. How right was Tywin when he told her that she thinks she is much smarter than she really is.

Arming religious fanatics to cleanse Kings Landing of sin (to remove Loras and Margaery) when she herself comitted incest, adultery and treason AND the cousin she banged is IN the zealot group     . Of course she got caught.

This feels like the weakest plotline in the story by far, entirely forced for whatever reason. Even if we accept that Cercei is that dumb (which is fari), how am I supposed to believe that a handful of zealots lightly armed are arresting the queen, the queen's brother and the king's mother in their own city. The Kingsguard and the gold cloaks should killed all these people a long time ago. Tommen is a b*tch through and through.

His character even seems kinda similar to Filch.

Just watched Hardhome. Finally an awesome episode all around, everything was great. God damn the walkers are badass. The shot of them on their horses atop the mountain looking at the battle was epic. Same for when Darth Maul raised the dead. Sucks that they lost all that dragonglass.

I really thought Jon was gonna die, I got spoiled online before I starter the show that Jon would die or get wrecked somehow and come back somehow. I figure it would be then but he beasted against the Walker.

It makes all that noise with Sansa and Bolton seem so meaningless. Their are worried about who controls what shitty castle while close to them world war Z is happening.

Sansa has gone from being a meaningless character to being a meaningless character to staying a meaningless character. Don't know why we see so much of her. Bran, Jon and Arya are out there being awesome and proper heir's to Ned. Even Rickon looks like he has potential, he didn't really ever complain and faced that trek like a man. Sansa meanwhile chose to be scrub and went to Bolton's willingly  Laughing and she trusts Littlefinger after he tells her that 1) He used her to kill the king 2) That he is unpredictable and no one knows his agenda 3) Creeped on her at the vale 4) Killed her aunt and his wife 5)That he literally wants EVERYTHING. I mean...

Tyrion finally brought the Daenerys arc back to life. I just don't know one thing, why did Jorah go to Valyria? they all knew about the stone men, why sail through it?
