Champions League seeding 2016/17
With all the talk about how badly Leicester will get beat, or not, in the CL I thought to make the CL pots and see what comes out. The new CL seeding makes it so that the CL champion + the champions of the top 7 leagues get pot 1. If the CL winner is also one of the 7 league winners then the last spot goes to the winner of the 8th best league.
Just for argument sake I picked the favorites for each title (which for the leagues just means the current team at first place). Don't hate me Madrid/Liverpool fans, it wouldn't change much for Leicester who I picked anyway for the CL/EL.
Pot 1 (Champions): Atletico, Barca, Juve, PSG, Bayern, Benfica, CSKA, Leicester
Pot 2: Madrid, Dortmund, Arsenal, City, Sevilla, Zenit, Porto, Napoli
Pot 3: Leverkusen, Basel, Shaktar, Spurs, Olympiacos, Kiev, Lyon, Villareal
Pot 4: Ajax, PSV, Sporting, Roma, Gladbach, Monaco, Scrub 1, Scrub 2
^It gets harder when you go down the list to see who will be in it because of play offs and stuff so I just put 2 placeholder spots.
Who can Leicester really beat (note that they can't get Arsenal, City or Spurs)? Everyone in Pot 2 I see as favorites against them. Same for pot 3 except for Lyon and Kiev. Mostly based on these teams being more experienced in CL/EL but with a lot of close calls of course. Pot 4 seems more like Leicester level but Roma and Sporting having the upper hand.
For me, if they wanna make it they really need to get some players with european experience this summer. Otherwise I don't see them likely getting out of the groups.
PS.: That Bayern, Madrid, Spurs, Ajax group is gonna be awesome.

Well assuming they don't get some fat luck and the pot 2 team tops their group, looking at pot 3 and 4 there's not too many teams i'd say they couldn't compete with.
So in a group of say
Leicester
Don'tgiveashitFc
Basel
Sporting
They could very well finish 2nd.
That being said all of this is nothing more than lad banter because nobody knows what sort of shape they'll be in after the transfer window.

They can definitely beat many of the teams in pot 3. Pot 2 teams will prove too tough for them in their first CL campaign save for maybe Porto. Funnily enough that pot 4 is stronger than pot 3 lol
Say they got Porto, Leverkusen and Ajax, they will definitely have a chance at topping the group. I think it depends on what team they get from pot 2. Because if it is a big team say for arguments sake Real Madrid then realistically there will only be one spot up for grabs and thats between Leicester and whoever they get from the other groups

I hope Gladbach will make it through the qualifiers. But then, on their day they can beat everybody (they are unbeaten against Bayern home and away in the last two Bundesliga seasons). On the other hand, they can be beaten by everybody, too (Hannover, hello? )

Re: Champions League seeding 2016/17
You guys are assuming they keep their best players... other than Mahrez perhaps (and i have doubts), they won't. Second, nobody took them seriously in EPL until the very very end. It was as if everyone expected them to invariably stumble. They won't have that in CL. Third, as i mentioned in the other thread, EPL doesn't have great midfield play (yet). Bundi, La Liga and Serie A teams do. Even Ligue 1. That's why Ranieri failed a lot in those leagues... when he put underdog tactics in, he eventually got shredded because teams in those leagues have a tradition of beating you through the middle.
They may make it out to elimination rounds (if they're very lucky), but that's it. Personally, i think they get knocked out in pool play.

2012/2013: City, Ajax, Dortmund
2013/2014: Juve, Copenhagen, Gala
2014/2015: Liverpool, Ludogrets, Basel
2015/2016: Paris, Malmo, Shaktar
Judging by the trend, Madrid would probably get one really tough opposition and 2 reasonably "easy" match ups.
