Juanfran cant even defend against Juanpi from Malaga. Him and Luis are carried by the catenacio tactics that Simeone employs. Even a finished Ribery turned him inside out

Him and Luis aren't carried by anyone. Him and Luis are central to Atletico's game. They do an unreal amount of work every game and shine. The tactics don't make them look good, they make the tactics work.

Even Arbeloa would look good in that team. What tactics?? They park their way to wins winning 1-0 through some jammy goal with around 3 shots on target every game. When you know how to tackle their tactics getting past their fullbacks become a piece of cake

If its a piece of cake then why, after 5 seasons of Simeone, do they still beat Barca, Madrid, Bayern and get to a CL final?

Luis was the best player on the pitch in the 180min against Bayern. Atletico rely on their fullbacks more than almost any team.

For both Dani and Juanfran to be in a discussion for best RB in the world, something went awfully wrong in the fullback developmental process in clubs.

That being said, Hala isn't wrong. Juanfran struggled against Juanpi Also, I really wouldn't call Juanfran better than Caravan. The former has become a solid fullback (or maybe he always was and I never noticed) but Dani is just better at what Juanfran does including defending.

P.S Does Lahm still play RB because I would have gladly chosen him over both of them.

Lahm is for sure the best RB around but I don't know if he plays it consistently with Pep nowadays. He played RB against Atletico though. If he counts then

Lahm>Juanfran>Carvajal

Apart from Pep's first season, Lahm has been Bayern's starting RB in 95% of games in the past 2 years. He's still very good and hasn't noticeably declined yet.

Juanfran a good RB let alone the best  Peeps need to actually watch him for Spain where he is a disaster.  He can't hold his side 1v1 against the top players.  Atleti give him a lot of cover.  The problem for Atleti is that the better RBs are all going to more prestigious clubs because there aren't that many of them.  

Still remember his turnover against France in WC qualifying that led to Giroud's game tying goal at the last minute  Not only did he get the ball stolen...  Ribery then raped him (again) to make the cross.

With Atleti... you have to realize that it's all about team defense, not individually talented defenders.  There's a reason Juanfran looks terrible for Spain and Enrique barely played for Chelsea and had no offers in EPL after that.  Miranda, who looked all world at Atleti, looks just decent for Inter.  Atleti play very very compact and everyone helps out. The back 4 have far less real estate to cover and get quicker help than any other team.

To me, the best fullbacks are the ones that you can leave on an island against almost anyone and they can handle it.

i'm not sure there is any best right back to be honest. i feel a lot of positions in this day and age don't really have a 'best', we just pick a player from whoever wins a title with a team and slot them in that position. sometimes we can argue about which right back or player has had the better season, but a lot of times that's lost in team performances. you have people whose teams aren't often put on the backfoot, and whose defensive players aren't always forced to defend, yet because they win, we automatically hail their defensive players as the best in said position. they're having good seasons though....but seriously who can we label the best defender presently? almost everyone cb has some profound problem with their defense these days

Beat us when?? LaLiga??? We arent bottlers like Barca and Bayern. When it mattered we have always beat them in knockout competitions. In fact they cant score against us then. LaLiga is easier for them because of how we set up the team to play them. We dont play that undisciplined in cups

Atlético plays as a team; and as a result, most of their individual weaknesses fly under the radar. I think Juanfran is decent, but certainly not the best. You'd have to be an absolute beast to do what Carvajal is doing both in defense and attack with little help and acres of space to cover. He's the best.

The only brainfart in that match was the Casillas howler that gifted Atletico their ( undeserved )  goal .

The notion that Madrid somehow " stole " that game is beyond ridiculous considering the fact that they dominated Atleti  and had more clear chances .
