CBs were left all alone.

First goal...  Danilo got raped and Pepe moved over to cover.  Varane covered Pepe's man.  Marcelo or midfielder forgot to cover the far man and he was all alone to score.

Second goal...  corner.  Varane and his man fought to a draw.  Ball dropped in the box.  Danilo didn't stay on his man and he pounced on the open ball for a goal 5 meter away.

Literally a defensive horror show from the fullbacks and midfielders.

Benz had a knee-to-knee shock around the 15th min.  Tried to run it off for a while and finally had to leave as his knee was locking up.  Same knee as previously injured.

Marcelo, Danilo and Kovacic were especially horrible.  Isco was very bad and then came on in the 2nd half.  Kroos, Varane and Pepe were OK.  Jese was ineffective.  Bale and Vasquez were very good.  Modric couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his passing when he came on

ALL THAT SAID... tremendous heart shown by the team even if they weren't playing well and Zidane was fearless with his tactical adjustments.

@perucho, easy there. i've noticed people slowly exonerating rafa for some of his wrong-doings. i don't think anyone criticized rafa for signing lucas. in fact, besides the de gea debacle, not many people had much to say about our lack of transfer activity. most, for whatever reason had confidence in the starters and just wanted depth

rafa was criticized for his poor tactics and an inability to have a standard/preferred 11. even the lucas wasn't getting bulky minutes under rafa. he was too busy with playing bale in attacking midfield. imo the negatives under rafa outweighed the positives (if at all there were any)

We actually put in a defensive horror show. I mean, we are capable of it but I didn't think it would happen today but I saw the starting line up and asked myself what can Isco, Kroos and Kovacic do in terms of marking, tackling and covering. Turns out, not much.

Anyway, Lucas and Bale were really good and showed real determination and skill to pull this off. Lovely headers by Bale and Lucas as well. Um, Casemiro has become a legit important player for this stretch. We look absolutely rotten without a holding mid to sure stuff up.

Pepe is cancer.

thank you for bringing up marcelo sportsczy. its reasons like that why i feel fans and pundits get too caught up in the moment/present more than those fans who are criticized for nostalgic views.

marcelo was actually compared to the great roberto carlos on this forum. carlos' worst seasons in his career (Excluding fenerbache ,corinthians and that russian club, cos i never watched him in those places), were probably his last two seasons at madrid; and even then comparing marcelo to 05-07 carlos is complete blasphemy. carlos could whip in a reasonable cross, was consistent on free kicks in that period, and could still put in reasonable shifts on defense (when he wasn't adjusting his socks or absent minded with respect to makaay)

marcelo is nowhere near him, he's got good tricks, but the final ball is lacking. someone said in mid-week, he'll do 90 percent of the work then put in a shit final ball. and i'm not even bringing up defense.

been saying marcelo gets away with things, that danilo gets destroyed for every game but dribbling>

Also, how bad is this new injury from Benzema who is obviously made of some sort of Styrofoam.

Need a new CF for sure next season. Benzema can't be trusted.

Not new. Same injury. He has a strained ACL. It takes 6-8 weeks of rest to heal. So it's just one of those things he will carry all season. If it gets tweaked, it inflames and needs to be iced. Then you can't play until swelling is down and you have good enough stability. Just how it is.

So he can afford to start against City because we really need him. Dearly.

Depends if swelling is down by then. It's going to be close. You can't bend your knee or cut much until it does so there's not much you can do about it. Just need to ice, ice... and then ice some more.

First goal. Danillo beaten and 4 vs 3. We should not have allowed 4 vs 4 to begin with. The Anchor was in no man's land.

Second goal. Varane mistake. Is that how you clear a corner? By heading straight into the other guys head. He really needs to stop having these minute mistakes which leads to goals.
