Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 25
Yeah every interview he's done suggests how happy he is to be there after more than 15 years.
Apparently he nearly started crying after Raw went off the air, Reigns is going to get booed at a disgusting rate especially if it's on the PPV because it's in Chicago lmao.

Title shot 3 months into his WWE career. Handed to him on a plate.
Imagine if that was Batista, smarks would be booing him out of the arena.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 25
Don't expect him to win but at least he's not being treated as fodder like nearly every other non WWE guy usually is.
Now if WWE would treat the likes of Wyatt like that then maybe the main event can actually get interesting.
There needs to be multiple guys which are involved in the main event not just one, if only Vince would realise that.

AJ has a bit of CM Punk about him tbh. Not seen his promos though. Interested in following his and reigns feud.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 25
They can be good, he's no CM Punk on a promo level though. It's good enough to where it's not a detriment though.
He used to be really bad when I first started watching him in 2006 but over the last 5 years or so it's gotten a lot better and if Bryan can get by then he certainly can.
I'm interested to see how Reigns character evolves as well tbh, since Raw he's turned into a smug and arrogant pos which to me whether he turns or not is more suited to his character than the anti authority crap he was doing before.
AJ's biggest obstacle is probably dat Georgia accent as Vince doesn't usually like the down south stuff but get past that and he'll be fine.

AJ can still win if Balor Club get involved somehow, it won't make Roman seem that weak
But yeah, fully expecting him to lose

Nah wwe are promoting him to be a face. Would be weird to turn him heel all of a sudden. Will also kill his momentum
Rather turn reigns into an anti-hero/tweener

Yeah it's probably the most realistic outcome if he is to lose.
Plus they have to be debuting soon because they are already signed and was backstage at Raw, so they are obviously saving them for some big angle.
That said though I expect Reigns to keep it until Rollins comes back and then he'll lose to him.

That's my point though, his promo on RAW and his apparent promo on SmackDown don't sound face at all.
His character has evolved a bit from what it was pre mania, I mean he's not heel but he doesn't seem face either.
I mean this promo isn't something a face does and look at how dismissive he is of everyone lol, so cocky and arrogant.
It's not the same as the against all odds anti authority character they tried to push with HHH, there's a noticeable amount of smugness and arrogance which wasn't there before.

Its a bit too much to draw from one RAW imo, i agree that he doesn't seem like his pre-mania character, but to fully confirm he's a heel, we need to see more of him. They could easily make it same old Roman next week.

This is going to be Reigns vs Bryan II. AJ and Reigns are gonna be on each other's throats every week and in the match Reigns will win clean. After the match AJ will shake his hand and publicly endorse him.

Listen Corbin, AJ Styles is not just your run of the mill indie star. He is one of the biggest names in wrestling. His name gets WWE money. He is over, he sells merchandise, he bring house show attendance, he brings attention. How big your name is does matter. Goldberg won the world title 3 months into his WWE debut. Scott Steiner got a world title shot as soon as he debuted. Ric Flair won WWE title in the 90s like a couple of weeks after debuting because he was one of the biggest names in wrestling.
Batista got booed because fans felt Bryan got robbed. If he came back now and challenged Reigns he would be super over. If Styles got crickets and apathy then he would be nowhere near a title shot but that is the opposite of what is happening.

If I was skilled in video editing I would replace Jericho head with Chad's avatar and the laptop screens with DMzema posts.

One of the biggest names in wrestling? Yeh to smarks he might be. But the majority of casual fans don't care about TNA or the indys. TNA is a jobber promotion and that's where he made his name. Most fans were probably wondering whether AJ Styles was related to AJ Lee when he debuted.

Sting on the other hand is a big name because everyone knows him. Not because of TNA, but because of WCW. He's a true legend.
AJ styles isn't over. And my definition of over is someone who gets loud reactions on a weekly basis that causes headlines. Getting a generic face reaction doesn't mean anything. A few weeks ago he got crickets when he tried starting an 'AJ Styles' chant. His match at WM barely got a reaction (and that too from smarks) for somebody who's apparently so over. He shouldn't be entitled to anything. He has to work just as hard as everybody else to deserve a top spot.

Yeah, this where you are plain wrong. I know casual watchers and they pretty much all know who AJ Styles is from his name alone.
Yeah and if AJ is not over then no one is in the current roster lol. One random crowd being a bit quiet and he's not over, an average match at Mania not blowing the roof of the place and he's not over, sure and that offsets everything else I said. Bryan got crowd sitting on their hands on Fast Lane last year so he wasn't over either

Nobody is over on the current roster because they all suck lol. Last guy who was over on a consistent basis was Sandow and they buried him.
I feel like the WWE no longer want larger than life characters in the main event. They want average relatable everyday guys. And that's fine, but just look at the ratings and the interest in the product. It's at an all time low. The business has always been built on larger than life characters and the WWE seem to have forgotten that.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 25
TNA is not just an indie promotion, hell it's not even indie lol.
They used to get around 4m viewers when they actually had talent and AJ was their biggest name and draw for over a decade, even more than Kurt Angle.
Also I like how you ignore his run in New Japan where he got recognition as the best in the world by Wrestler Observer and New Japan isn't even close to being an indie promotion.
Indie promotions don't have PPVs at the Tokyo dome with over 50,000 people in it and quite frankly his run in New Japan is the reason he's in WWE right now.
Also you do realize he's paid like 600k lol? To use an example outside of HHH, Cena and Orton very few are paid more than that.
Also he is over, Meltzer has said he gets better reactions than pretty much all their current main event talent but I guess he knows nothing. His merch constantly sells out and he's a draw for the company to the point where WWE have signed Ex TNA talent because of him (not sure that's wise as none of them where stars like him but still)
He wouldn't be in this position if he was, yeah so you may not like it but he's a star and not just to "smarks" either.

Their ratings are down because less people are interested in professional wrestling than they were back in the day because of the explosion of television shows on HBO etc and live sport being more popular than ever.
To use an example they were up against the National college championship game on RAW, that sort of shit didn't happen in the attitude era, sure the product isn't what it could be but that's lots of different factors that didn't come into consideration during the Monday Night Wars.
I can pretty much guarantee that put Attitude era up against the competition it's up against today that those ratings wouldn't be what they were either.
