So Rafa might be off in the summer unless they prove to him they will actually back him as they lied to him during the January window. (ala Keegan)

I can hardly blame him if he does either, Ashley is such a major *bleep* then even with Rafa as manager it's still destined to be shit forever with this *bleep*.

It will depend on the summer. When they come back up, they are going to need reinforcements and if the board doesn't back and trust Rafa then he might leave.

This is it completely, if they back him then this is all noise.

But considering the history of the board them backing him is a huge IF imo.

The headline in the mirror is "prove we mean business" it's obviously the usual paper headline but it generally captures completely what is going on.

It’s The Sun and David Coverdale that go biggest on the story. Coverdale writes that Benitez could quit as Newcastle manager if the club don’t give him £100m to spend on his squad, and give him full control over recruitment.

almost certainly just sensationalist journalists during a slow week, but it would be unreal banter if Mole gets excited for the first time in a while to be in the PL only for Benitez to leave over the summer and someone like Alan Curbishley to be appointed

I have thought he's gonna leave since January tbh, the club *bleep* him over then and now it's more about trust than anything else.

There's a lot more to it than money and control.

I'm not going to feel comfortable and happy until the season starts tbh.

This is a huge summer for Newcastle. Hopefully Rafa stays and is allowed to sign some good players.

Moal, what are the expectations for the first PL season back?

Just avoid relegation first season?

I don't know if it's realistic to be asking for top 8 finish in the first season back. Certainly doable since the biggest competition is WBA, Southampton, Leicester, West Ham probably. if Rafa is allowed to build his squad with the right quality then I guess it can happen but I think it will take at least 2 seasons in PL.

I honestly can't answer that tbh.

Mainly because i don't know if he's going to be backed, stay and get the players he wants.

If all 3 of those things happen than comfortable mid table i suppose, somewhere between 12th-15th but not really in relegation trouble.

Top half is too unrealistic under any scenario imo.

Look above BC, top 2 go up automatically and both us and Brighton were enough ahead of 3rd place to be promoted before 1st place was decided.

Seeing as Brighton had more points than us at the time they were technically promoted first but the actual championship wasn't decided till today.
