Our squad with the new homegrown rule Empty Our squad with the new homegrown rule

Post by rincon Sun Feb 07, 2016 6:39 pm

I was just reading about the new squad rules starting next season and wanted to know what you guy knew/thought about it?

As I understand it, teams will need 4 players trained in italy (spent 3 years within 15-21 years old in the country) and 4 italian players trained by the club (3 years within 15-21) either on the youth/senior teams or loaned out while on contract with us.

For homegrown we are more than covered with:
Buffon
Barzagli
Bonucci
Chiellini
Rugani
Sturaro
Padoin
Zaza
and maybe some others

But for the club trained we only have Marchisio.
So we would need 3 players that from our youth team or call someone back that was here before. Maybe Marrone will come back? who else could be in our squad to fill the quota?

It just makes it harder for Italian teams to compete in Europe tbh... and if someone fights it (namely agents) legally, it will get overturned because the Bosman ruling was pretty darn clear about imposing rules that are tantamount to creating barriers for other EU citizens from getting a job.

Is for Serie A starting next season. Max squad 25 including 4 homegrown and 4 clubgrown. No limit for U-21 players.

it might make it harder for italian teams to compete in europe, thats the main worry. but I dont think so. Most teams in Italy, and at some other leagues, play foreigners just to play foreigners. Its a common criticism of the league. We dont need Lemina, Hernanes and Rubinho to cite just 3 backups, so those could go to young players and it wouldn't shake up things. Im just trying to talk about who we might get.

And I doubt its getting overturned, it was voted in 2 years ago unanimously by the clubs. Part of the point was to bring it closer to UEFA regulations, since Italy was so 'loose' before. The EPL has a similar system in place as well. It actually favors EU citizens since part of it places stricter restrictions on signing non-EU players.

Milan seem to be all set for it with Abate, De Sciglio, Donnarumma, Niang, Bonaventura, Bertolacci, Antonelli, Balotelli, Abbiati, etc.

Roma has De Rossi and Florenzi (assuming totti is retiring) and they could bring back Verde and others.

The main restrictions is non-EU one which could really be a problem.

This rule is not good news for top teams playing in European competition. But it clearly intends involving more young italian players.
It makes sense to have 3 academy players as sub options. For example we can bring a youth keeper in place of the legendary Rubinho, add a fifth attacker and def/mid.
However in top teams it's unlikely they will get much playing time but it can be a good marketing for them.

It's time to add quality foreign players and use italians for depth lol

Wow... I never knew about this :/ Juve are known to produce good Italian talents so I am positive Marrota will do well in this scenario.

It's at the EU level that it could be a problem if someone opposes it... i don't think it's legal. But then again, someone would need to file the lawsuit to get it overturned. There is no time factor to file the suit if it's about legality.

Laughing

get over yourself, "I don't think its legal" I'm sure they never looked it up. You know, the clubs, the federation, and the lawyers involved.

Actually rincón football clubs have a long history of implementing ilegal rules. Most recently UEFA chose to settle with City and PSG when they chose to challenge FFP in court. Had they received a ruling, it's possible the entire FFP might have fallen as a result. It's not at all unimaginable that this falls into the same pattern, since homegrown rules are essentially discrimination against other nationalities.

Definitely. Could very well be, it just comes across as arrogant to disregard it without more information. The clubs and the federation voted for it, UEFA and the epl have had a similar rules for years, and, you know, its already in effect with 8 homegrown players for clubs this season.

It may be overruled, it may not last too long after the federation cools down and the national team gets better results. But until then its worth talking about it since clubs have to make some changes.

Anyway, teams like empoli, sassuolo or bologna are great to see. Hopefully this has a positive impact and players slowly get more integrated.

Fiore, the worst offender, are doing exactly what juvealbanian says with both backups GK being homegrown. Eventually this could see players rise.

Yeah but homegrown is far far different then specific nationalities...  the UEFA rules only require homegrown players regardless of nationality as long as it's a EU player.  There are restrictions for players who are non-EU, which is not illegal.  Same with the EPL rule.
