SportBild claims the Gunners will make a move for the Germany international in the summer. Höwedes will apparently only have one year remaining on his contract by then and has a release clause of £9 million.

Aubameyang, who beat Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure to the African Player of the Year award last night, has quashed talk of a move to the Gunners.

He said: "I don’t want to go to Arsenal. I won’t leave Dortmund soon."
