Liverpool v Manchester United
Both of us coming off a 3-3 thriller, another one on the cards here?
Could also be a boring 0-0, such has been the attacking play of us and them this season.
Just don't lose this one, I'd hate to give United a boost at this stage in their top-4 race.

Re: Liverpool v Manchester United
Either a 0-0 or a 1-0 for you lot. Liverpool at least scored 3 and made a dramatic comeback against the potential champs. What's our excuse? Conceded 3 against one of the worst teams in the league, let a 2 goal lead slip- we're a bloody shambles atm.
Not really expecting a thriller here. LVG will revert back to possession and null attack, has the excuse of how our defence capitulated against NewC ZZZzzzzzz. Both teams will be scared to lose but I think you lot will come at us from the jump as the onus is on you, since you're playing at home and would want to close down on a top 4 rival. Also you'll be playing with confidence after the Arsenal game.
I just wish our lot turn up with a bit of passion for this fixture at least, since it means a lot to us fans. Win and it may(slight hope) give us an injection of confidence to go on a decent run. Lose and LVG has to go...just has to. His position will be beyond untenable.
A lot riding on this fixture for many reasons.

Re: Liverpool v Manchester United
Hoping we can push on from Wednesday and maybe our keeper can have a solid game so we can win. I'd like to see this:
Firmino needs to continue his form. All the talent is there and his quality is starting to come through. Some of the touches against Arsenal were pure class. I think he can have a big impact on this game.
Let's go out and smash these losers.
Clyne - Caulker/Toure - Sakho - Smith
Henderson - Lucas - Allen
Ibe - Firmino - Lallana

Re: Liverpool v Manchester United
This will be interesting tactically.
Utd can't attack and defend at same time. It's one or the other.
If utd is playing defensive football then they will win just because Liverpool won't keep clean sheet.
If utd is playing the pro active football then they will get countered and Liverpool will win in a fairly high scoring game
Which Manchester united can we expect?

The one that aims to win the possession stats, not the match. Pretty much the same boring Utd all season.

If United try to play a possession game I think they'll get battered. Klopp sets up really well against that kind of team with the heavy press and quick offensive transitions.

We should win this game just for the sake that it is a derby game otherwise we are done in the league long back. I dont think winning this game is going to push us to get that run of wins to finish in top 4.

Re: Liverpool v Manchester United
I think our goal this season, from now on, should be finishing above Man United. Beat them tomorrow and we'd be level on points. Draw and it's still possible. Lose and I don't think we'll catch them again.
Even if we don't finish in the top-4, if we still beat United in the league, that'd be the silver lining.

Re: Liverpool v Manchester United
well ideally, this is the season where unpredictability is high on tide. Imagine two of the consistent top 4 finishers, Chelsea and Manutd are not guaranteed for a top 4 finish this season, what bigger chance you want to finish in top 4. So we should take advantage of it but unfortunately we are also struggling because of various issues.

That's incredibly pessimistic for January 16th, Art. There's still quite a bit of footy left to be played. We may be incredibly inconsistent at the moment (thanks mainly to individual performances), but United are consistently dull.Art Morte wrote:I think our goal this season, from now on, should be finishing above Man United. 3-2 Loss
2-1 Loss
2-0 Loss
0-0 Draw
2-1 Win over Swans
1-0 Win over Shef Utd (FA Cup)
3-3 Draw with NUFC
In the last 7, they've scored more than once on only 2 occasions, and their big breakout was against Newcastle... United's big hope should be that De Gea performs well and keeps the Liverpool attack at bay.
As for us, we're equally as likely to put in three or be held scoreless. Unfortunately, we're also as equally likely to allow 3 as we are to keep a clean sheet. The combination makes it incredibly difficult to predict our performances/results.
As far as lineup, I'm hoping for a variation of what we saw against Arsenal:
Firmino
Lallana
Milner---------------Ibe
Can---Henderson
Moreno--------------------Clyne
Sakho---Caulker
Mignolet
(Only because the other options are worse.)

Mignolet, Clyne, Toure, Sakho, Moreno, Lucas, Henderson, Can, Milner, Lallana, Firmino
Ward, Caulker, Smith, Allen, Teixeira, Ibe, Benteke
I would have started Ibe or Benteke instead of Milner or Can, but oh well. A huge game, let's get the win!

Seriously. Klopp must really hate to have the ball.

Re: Liverpool v Manchester United
An encouraging half, but haven't tested De Gea. Henderson needed to do better with his chance in the box, either hit the target or cross it to Can. Emre is having a bit of a shocker, btw.
Lucas playing well, hopefully he hasn't injured his back, though. Firmino playing too soft. I'd like to see Benteke come on asap, we would benefit from his presence in the box since we're enjoying quite a lot of possession around it. None of our players look like they're going to score.

If Benteke comes, we will create no chance because right now we are able to keep the ball around the box because players have been so mobile and that is making it hard for Utd players and creating confusion among them

Lallana is the most useless player since Downing. Just *bleep* ruining every attack.

Another shit season to be written off. sigh
It pisses me off that we've lost 4 times in a row against this awful awful United side.

Re: Liverpool v Manchester United
Got what we deserved.
Btw, it's a *bleep* joke that our best (fit) goalscorer and most natural striker can't start games. If, say, Sturridge had put in Firmino's display today we'd be saying "what a shite game from Sturridge". Now no one's saying anything about Firmino - but he was shite. He's not a striker, stop playing him like one when we have Benteke.

Benteke is even more shit and we wouldn't create any of the chances we did if Benteke was playing.
The problem is not Firmino. The problem is playing Hendo, milner, lallana, can, lucas behind FIrmino. All of them are hardworking runners. They can barely create SHIT.

Don't call me James wrote:Benteke is even more shit and we wouldn't create any of the chances we did if Benteke was playing.
This is such a myth. Benteke isn't any less mobile or worse with the ball than Giroud, Lukaku or Bony. Those are either first or second choice strikers for some of the best attacking teams in the league. You put Benteke in Arsenal's or Everton's or City's (instead of Bony, not Aguero) line-up and their attacking play wouldn't suddenly become shit.
As a goalscorer Benteke is better than Firmino and we need a goal scoring striker because the other players score so little.
