Suarez vs Henry vs Eto'o

Henry edges the eye test for me .

We never got to see Arsenal Henry in the national team tho .

I feel that Eto'o doesn't get enough love. He was great back then. Won everything, plus back to back trebles while beasting for both teams was an amazing achievement.

I love suarez, probably the best 9 out there, but the guy gives me anxiety, every game we loss i hope he doesn't bite someone else to get perma banned from playing.

He only played like Arsenal Henry on the final. He went to the tournament as the second best player in the world. He underperformed a lot by his standards.

Nothing to do with carrying form from club to country. The explanation is much easier. Henry played in an awful league. Today's EPL is labeled Mule League but early 00s pre oil money Premier League was the pinnacle of 4-4-2 pace and power hoofball tactical chaos. When a sporting director masquerading as an average coach à la Wenger goes 49 games unbeaten and 16 year old Fabregas is dominating, you know the league you're playing in is bird poop. Apart from underperforming for France, Henry failed in Italy and he also underperformed for Barca. And even though people say he was past his prime, Henry joined Barca with 29, not 34. That's what Suarez is now, for the record. So he only really performed in a horrible league. That's the explanation for Henry.

The explanation for Messi is also easy. Di Maria, Agüero, Higuain, Mascherano, Banega, Otamendi, Zabaleta etc. aren't good enough for Messi to perform. Meanwhile Suarez won the whole tournament as 2nd best top scorer, top assister and MVP award winner with Sebastian Coates, Caceres, Alvaro Gonzales, Diego Perez and the likes as supporting cast, a bunch of Championship players. Why? Because he is the People's Bitemmander and not a pretender.

Remember when Fabregas was supposed to be on Xavi and Iniesta level, if not better, when he was still at Arsenal? After Fabregas joined a true elite team and league and got exposed badly his prestige rightfully went to shit. What's the difference with Henry? The only difference with Henry is that Henry had the "past his prime" excuse at the age of 29 and didn't leave on bad terms.

When average players like Song and Fabregas already get this kind of props from Arsenal fans it's not hard to understand why Henry, a proper player (not Suarez level but still proper), is hyped up as a God by Arsenal fans.

Minus Arsenal fans, minus French people, minus people who have been brainwashed by Arsenal fans or French people, no one honestly thinks Henry at any stage was ever up there with Suarez.

Suarez finishing is almost comical sometimes. Both eto and Henry would not miss this much easy chances consistently.

Henry is also better dribbler and shooter. More creative and much better first touch. Suares first touch is not that of a top player nor is his running with the ball. Suarez is probably better at off the ball movements and game intelligence, workrate,defending etc.

Honestly surprised Henry isn't winning this poll by a landslide. Did not think Suarez would be so highly regarded that posters would think he is better than both Henry AND Eto.

Henry is clearly better tbh. In the same tier as Real Ronaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Dinho etc. Suarez belongs with the likes of Villa, Ibra etc

Henry was better, so was Eto in my own opinion but watching Suarez, watching his determination, skill and scumbaggery, I don't fault anyone for thinking he is the best of the three. A worthy comparison to those 2 great men, don't mind I disagree he better than either of the two.

Yea it's quite easy for feeble minds to mistake hard work and commitment for actual talent. Same people who thinks Suarez is better than he is also rate the likes of Vardy and Troy Deeney. All work hard and score goals but nowhere near as good as fans think.

Almost comical finishing yet the only player to rival Messi and Ronaldo (while taking half the amount of shots) for the Golden Boot. Twice. If he'd convert even more of his chances he'd end up with about 70+ goals in a season.

Henry was also not a great dribbler. He pushed the ball forward and chased it with his pace Gareth Bale-style. No wonder it didn't work once he came to La Liga. Stylistically the player who was compared to Henry the most in recent years was Barca's Tello.

I like this discussion because I can give free history lessons to people who have been blinded by Arsenal fans hyping up their idol. Isn't it funny how Henry is supposedly the greatest striker since R9 yet there is next to no memorable Henry game on the international stage or in the Champions League (bar that 1 Real Madrid goal)?

Henry belongs in a category with Lampard, Gerrard etc., Premier League greats but little pedigree on the intl. stage or CL bar 1 or 2 moments, which rules them all out from being compared to the true legends who performed on every stage. Henry scored 7 CL knockout goals from 1997 until the end of his Arsenal career in 2007, in 10 years. Suarez scored 8 knockout stage goals in only 2 seasons at Barca. Let's stop this nonsense of comparing the French Gareth Bale to the best striker in modern football history.
