Re: Upcoming Stadium projects
I'm glad they didn't change the location of the stadium. It is located very central and traffic issues aside, match days make Bilbao very vibrant.
All I can hope now is for La Liga TV rights to be centralised and hopefully we'll see this great league back on top.

Re: Upcoming Stadium projects
New York City FC isn't going to build in queens.
http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/queens/major-league-soccer-won-coming-queens-pol-article-1.1394221
Looks like they are aiming for the Bronx. Which is way better imo. A team in the bronx right near Yankee stadium would be huge for the MLS. Which seems to be the new plan.

Re: Upcoming Stadium projects
The Pics look great. Going to be an impressive stadium.
I just wondered if anyone could help me. Being a fan of Athletic Club living over in England. I am coming over to Bilbao on my honeymoon in August (17th-30th). I had hoped to catch a game (most likely the home game V Osasuna). Will the new stadium be ready for the first home game? IF not where will they be playing.
If anyone could help would be grateful as need to book hotel where ever it is.
Thanks

Salut Jseau.
At the moment, Athletic are trying their best to have San Mames Barria ready for the first home game v Osasuna.
Fears were due to the complexity of the construction, Athletic would have to face Osasuna within Anoeta. But before you shout in agony, last I heard from a local foreman, that the Barria should be completed enough to host the first match as per request of Urrutia. Stadium will obviously be NOT complete during the game, as it will be completed within September. Yet I will update on this situation which will find clarity near the end of the month.
Hotels? I would advise Melia Bilbao, Zenit Bilbao, Hesperia Zubialde, or even the San Mames in Luis Brinas.
Others if I remember are a little further like the Ercilla Hotel or Silken hotel indautxu
But these are all of the ones I remember.

Re: Upcoming Stadium projects
http://www.stadiumguide.com/wp-content/uploads/sampdorianew1.jpg
Sampdoria have taken another step closer to realising a new seaside home after presenting their plans to a special committee of the city of Genoa.
Sampdoria hope to build a new 30,000 all-seater in the place of the present Palasport indoor arena and Fiera exhibition centre. The site has an appealing seafront location with adjacent marina and lies at walking distance from Genoa’s city centre.
The club’s plans are not new though, as they have long expressed the desire to move out of shared Stadio Luigi Ferraris and into a new club-owned stadium. Progression has been slow though and last week’s presentation was only a small step closer to reaching their goal.
The new stadium will be able to incorporate some of the functions of the present exhibition centre, and plans furthermore involve the construction of a smaller indoor arena with place for 2,500 people. There are a total of 1,000 parking spaces envisioned alongside the stadium.
While environmental impact will be relatively limited, the big obstacle, as usual, is likely going to be funding. The project is estimated to cost at least € 200 million and the city of Genoa has already indicated little enthusiasm to contribute.
Sampdoria, without much money on the bank either, hopes to fund part of the project with related commercial developments and may also seek the help of Italian Olympic committee CONI and Fiera. Further talks with these parties are scheduled for later this month.

Re: Upcoming Stadium projects
That's a drop in the bucket when building a stadium in the United States. We built a basketball stadium in a medium sized market like Orlando for $505m. The stadium is state of the art, but we're not even a very good basketball team. Oh, and it only seats 20,000.Forza wrote:200m for a 30k person stadium? that's crazy

Basketball is a bit different though, you don't really want a huge stadium because the court is so small.

City leaders in overwhelming support for Anfield regeneration
By Marc Waddington 4 Sep 2013 20:44
1,700 residents have given their views on the £200m-plus “Anfield Village” scheme
Plans for the regeneration of Anfield have been overwhelmingly supported by the community, Liverpool leaders claimed.
Since proposals for the £200m-plus “Anfield Village” scheme were put forward, more than 1,700 residents have given their views to a consultation on the plans.
The findings show around 80% are in favour of the scheme, which will include major housebuilding or refurbishment of existing homes, as well as improvements to Anfield stadium to boost capacity.
But some in the community, who say they support the overall plans, say they are concerned that progress may be slower than initially envisaged.
According to the council’s findings “some 97% agreed it was important to improve the street scene and environment and 85% supported the plans for a revitalised high street. A further 83% backed the plans for Stanley Park and 78% supported the proposals for improved match day experiences.”
Around 80% were said to have backed plans for improved housing and 90% said Walton Breck Road badly needed improving for both residents and matchday visitors.
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said: “People have given us invaluable information about the entire range of regeneration ideas and concepts which we unveiled.
“In the coming weeks we will use this information to refine our proposals and to undertake another listening and consultation exercise.
“We believe the plans are exciting and will deliver a massive improvement in quality of life for many thousands of people and be of major benefit to the city not just Anfield.”
The plans also include the development of a “food hub” in Stanley Park, which will have 24 catering points, which firms will be able to use on a pay-as-you-go basis.
The park will contain a showpiece avenue running from within Stanley Park up to the stadium. It is planned to name it in tribute to the 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster.
Liverpool Football Club managing director Ian Ayre, who last year apologised for the slow progress in deciding whether the club would stay or move to Stanley Park and the blight that the community suffered as a result, said: “The findings of this community engagement exercise are a key milestone in the wider regeneration of the Anfield area and another important step towards transforming the area for the better.”
A hospitality training school, which functions as a working hotel will also form part of the plans.

Re: Upcoming Stadium projects
Thohir met with Mayor of Milan Giuliano Pisapia to propose building a new stadium in the Rho area, leaving San Siro to Milan.
“It was a more than cordial meeting, even a friendly one, in which there was an exchange of opinions on sport in Milan and the future development of the city,” explained Mayor Pisapia.
“It was the first step in a dialogue that will continue soon. I can say we set out a joint pathway that will allow us to collaborate for the good of Milan and those who chose our city for an important investment.”
