now you mean after today's 5-1destruction of arsenal? lol.Hapless_Hans wrote:Sorry but you're living in the last decade if you think Ancelotti us a better coach in 2018 than Klopp
This is not a lifetime achievement award
this is a ranking as of NOW and I am spot on
There is 0 evidence that Ancelotti isnt better in 2018. so factoring in past accomplishment, he still has the benefit of the doubt

Re: Pochettino- Next big thing in football
To me, it's literally a toss up between Pep and Carlo. Zidane is 3rd. Allegri is 4th.
If you're looking to win a cup, I'd take Carlo all day and every day while Pep would take the league crown. Zidane just doesn't have enough years under his belt... while Allegri needs to show that the can handle a super elite club (Juve is elite; but this is the first year that it has truly elite expectations).

Re: Pochettino- Next big thing in football
Ancelotti is not Wenger to classify him as someone living off past glories. He is a cup specialist and big game manager. He doesn't have the set tactics to win the league consistently however.

Since we got Zizou back, our manager issues are done for now but he is totally my go to guy I would like next managing this club.

Re: Pochettino- Next big thing in football
more than anything, we need zidane to succeed. not just for us, not just for our pride and not just to stop barcelona's dominance over us (which sad to say has been since 2005 if we really want to quit lying to ourselves), but mainly to change the way the club is being run
i'm an emphatic believer that the coach should have a huge say in matters of personnel, because the coach is the one with those players, not the president. success for zidane coming as a result of him having a much bigger role could change our thought process when it comes to the contributions of a coach
failure will mean a shift back to hiring goodey two shoes yes-men, who just say the right things to appease the president and fans; the ones who will kiss the badge and in 2 seconds even before a ball is kicked, that little piece of action gets fans unnecessarily excited. we need action not passion

Has any of our lovely, GL Real Madrid fans asked for Pochettino to replace Zidane, yet? I'm getting tired of waiting for it to happen

@thimmy, you have to be patient, you'll soon hear people say something like solari aka mr steady the ship was a better coach than zizou. i understand the need to be critical, and i welcome it especially when things aren't right. but sometimes in doing that, we turn clowns into martyrs. a man without scruples could become a god in these parts for doing absolutely next to nothing.

I’m still holding out for Poch. I still think he is a better manager than ZZ, and the best manager we could have gotten. However, because ZZ has the leverage on transfers now- I think he gets the edge.
I can see Poch being the next one appointed, but it won’t be for 4-5 years I would expect.

Re: Pochettino- Next big thing in football
I wasn't very familiar with the term, "knee-jerk" before I joined this forum, and I've realized that it's a term that aptly sums up the general theme of our discussions when things don't go our way. I don't think it matters whether you're a man without scruples or Mr. Perfect - there has to be a single culprit that needs to be held accountable, and everyone knows that the manager is probably, err.. most definitely the culprit. But if it's not the manager, then it's definitely a player. And if it's not the player, it's definitely the next manager, so let's sack the manager and get a new manager.
There are tons of things that can be blamed, and it seems to me that there are multiple reasons for our poor performances, but I think the core of the issue is that the head honchos at Real Madrid have shown a bafflingly poor ability to plan ahead. Not only has the team been left in a state where multiple players need to be replaced ASAP, but impulsive transfers and a hysterically unprofessional manager hiring policy has fittingly wrapped up Real Madrid's awkward, public image since the fax machine blaming incident. As much as I appreciate the stability of Zidane's return, the management of the club has been a circus, and I genuinely don't think the state of the team would have been much different if Zidane hadn't left in the first place. I don't know what people expect a manager to do with these players. We're comparable to Man United, post- Ole's upped intensity training. We've discussed the squad issues throughout the season, yet rotating coaches seems to work like a fire extinguisher.

Re: Pochettino- Next big thing in football
if this was say, ten years ago i may have been all in for poch; it was relatively easier for a coach to leave and also have his former players, in this case kane , eriksen and son join him. you'd still spend money but not 160 million for each of them.
overall as a manager, i'm not sure how to rank poch. i mean winning has to account for something, and its not like he's got scrubs on the squad. i don't know really, he has big moments and some very forgettable moments. but he has the player, no?
right now, i'm all in for the coach, in this case zidane, having a huge say in our transfers. that to me was paramount, and it was why i posed the question on the other thread on his scouting skills. i think it allows for total accountability from the coach; no excuses whatsoever.

Re: Pochettino- Next big thing in football
You know the feeling when you're traveling at night through a secluded misty dark forest and you're tired, hungry, sleep-deprived and finger-bloody with only wolves and carnivorous beasts roaming about? And then out of the blue, just when you were about to lose all hope and collapse into nothingness, you see a bright light of a cosy cabin shining through the night calling you to come take shelter? You know the euphoria that goes through your entire body and into your soul during that very moment? That's what I felt when I read my brother Thimmy's post. +1.

Thimmy just being a bit salty because Utd fans are starting to give Uncle Ole the good, old fashion "blame the manager" treatment. Don't mind he really inherited a rather mediocre team.
Also, I usually blame upper management for the relative nonsense we are in. I say relative because despite our hit and hope style of planning and the fuckery of this season, 4 CL in 5 years with a La Liga crown in the middle does look nice.

It does look nice. An accumulation of the planning and building that went into creating an ambitious and solid foundation that was, for a while, continously improved upon, and later, became a competent, Champions League winning side. It also represents a period of time when the board of directors became complacent and went into hibernation. Then, they woke up and said "oh shit.. hey! I know what to do...... get that tall guy from Chelsea. We're aiming big again".
Doc: I am a bit salty about that. Mostly because I just browsed through probably hundreds of comments from Man United fans who blame everyone but the actual players who've been poor when it's mattered, like Pogba, Martial, Sanches (does he even count?). Very few seem to complain about Ole, but they want De Gea gone, which is friggin hilarious.

give it time, if things don't work out as we like or zizou doesn't play vinicius (who is still young and has a lot of time to learn) we will poke holes in zizou's attributes. which is very fare, but at some point you'll get the "well solari played youngsters ,didn't have his chance to pick his squad, and inherited a bad team" argument. even though zidane faced a similar challenge , he had cristiano though, i'll give him that.
if after 4/5 games people could start putting lope ahead or on the same level as zidane, then people doing the same with solari shouldn't surprise you. its ridiculous but isn't far-fetched. such comparisons should not even be made, its very wrong, but they happen
we have a solari and lopetegui section; in times like these when we are playing for zero and beating our chests against the levantes ginoras eibars of this world, the forums on those coaches make for some good old fashioned comic relief

never liked this clown and hopefully we stay far away from this fraud. got properly exposed today.
Re: Pochettino- Next big thing in football
Honestly if he had better players he would have claimed victory. Spurs were getting into dangerous areas to score but they could not capitalize.
Van Dijk and Matip were also incredible today imo
Poch did what he could

Imagine Demon of Carthago being a Tottenham fan, what would he say about Levy not buying one single player all summer, then selling one in winter to top it off.
Pochettino is a far better manager than Zidane will ever be.

Tottenham have done well in acquiring some good individuals from the bargain bin, but they have a fraction of our budget, and a fraction of the expectations. Your ability to rate managers is comparable to that of an 11 year old girl who doesn’t watch football, but thanks for telling us how much better you think Poch is compared to Zidane, I guess

I don't know what is worst. Turok going one extreme in calling a great manager in Poch a fraud or Hans calling a great manager in Zidane far worse than Poch. You know, 3 fucking time UCL winner Zidane lol. What exactly is the criteria you guys rate managers anyway?

Re: Pochettino- Next big thing in football
Poch is a good manager... he did make a big mistake in this game though... two of them. Lucas Moura has been on absolute fire and brings that speed element that Spurs lack otherwise. You had to start him. Also, Dier is better than Winks period. I don't like Winks at all.
The midfield of Sissoko, Winks and Eriksen was absolutely awful... Sissoko seemed injured (he barely ran), Winks is meh and Eriksen has been in bad form for a while now. Not to mention Harry Kane was nowhere to be seen (he hadn't played in 2 months so understandable).
I didn't like his lineup at all.

Re: Pochettino- Next big thing in football
I don’t like Winks either. He’s been underwhelming every single time I’ve watched him play. I see Eriksen is getting a lot of criticism on the internet right now, which I suppose makes sense considering his form, but at least he’s shown over longer periods of time how capable he can be, and how important he is to the team. Winks simply doesn’t have the talent.
When I saw that Harry Kane was starting, I assumed he was in better shape than we’d been lead to believe, but clearly that wasn’t the case. His inclusion from the start made no sense. Son was the only Tottenham player who looked lively. The main reason why he’s been so good for Tottenham this season is because his attacking mindset became more direct during Kane’s absence, and Son is far more capable than Kane of taking on defenders and getting himself into scoring positions. I suppose it’s easy and convenient to analyze these things in hindsight, but I really struggle to see why Kane started, unless 50% fit Kane pulling a clutch goal out of his ass was the game plan.

Re: Pochettino- Next big thing in football
eriksen's a great player no doubt. I'm just pointing out that he's been struggling for a bit. But his quality is unquestionable.
other point i'm making is that, with Hazard, it would be a redundant signing imo. I'd take him for 50-60 mil WITHOUT QUESTION. But if Spurs want 100 mil, we have other needs.
