Re: Top 5 Bargains signed by the club
Bargain by today's standards or the standards of the time we signed the player?
£11,000,000 for Thierry Henry is a bargain by todays standards but this was probably quite expensive a decade a go.
Also, the £2,5000,000 spent on Ian Wright at the time was actually a club record fee.
Even the fee paid for David Seaman was a British record at the time.
Whatever the case, I think the £500,000 we paid to bring Cesc Fabregas here is our best bargain.

I think gervinho is good barging if he didn't show his love for Arsenal he could have gone for a higher fee to another team.

Bargains are actually a fascinating subject in football, me thinks.
If you look at some of these very successful selling clubs like Porto or Ajax, it's quite remarkable how they've been able to find so many superb players in their teens and sell them on for big profit later on.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that bargain buys are more difficult to come across today than a decade ago.

very true , a 200k to great player would've seemed like a great piece of business like 10 years ago, now a 3 million to great player is a great piece of business .

You can thank inflation for that. Nowadays teams have to pay twice as much to get the players they want.
A decade or so ago, Niclas Anelka, one of the worlds finest young strikers, moved from PSG to us for a mere £500,000.
Today: Neymar, one of the worlds finest young forwards, will move for €45,000,000.
A decade or so ago, €45,000,000 would almost buy you Zidane.
Crazy how the market has changed. £10,000,000 for a player nowadays is deemed very good business.
