Newcastle vs Arsenal 2015/16 PL (Preview/Live Thread)
Untouchable
Team news:
Newcastle: Riviere is out with an injury but Sissoko is expected to be back.
Arsenal: Rosicky, Wilshere and Welbeck remain out with long term injuries while Mertesacker/Koscielny are unlikely to be involved aswell.
Selection dilemmas
After two excellent performances from different kind of players in the first and second team, Steven McLaren is faced with big decisions to make for this one. Should he line-up with the most recent performers or should he rely on his best team (on paper) regardless of form? The only thing that seems a sure thing in his Newcastle career so far is Obertan starting. Most Newcastle supporters seem to believe (or hope at least) that McClaren with start his 'big 6' behind the attack in Janmaat, Mbemba, Colo, Haidara; Anita, Colback.
There are similar decisions to be made in attack too. Does Sissoko come in Obertan's place? That seems a sure thing unless you consider new signings Thauvin/Wijnaldum and Newcastle top performer last year Ayoze Perez. It's a good problem to have sure but what I expect Newcastle to do either way is get in Arsenal's face from the beginning making sure to exploit the fragility of Arsenal's defence whether Koscielny/Mertesacker are fit or not.
On the other side, Arsene Wenger will be expected to make some changes too after a disappointing start of a season. Expecting Oxlade-Chamberlain at the very least to get in the side for one of Cazorla/Ramsey. Despite Newcastle's decent start in terms of performances, they've been quite poor defensively and I believe the Anita - Colback midfield duo to be partly responsible. Haidara is also someone who doesn't exactly strike confidence, maybe it is a player Arsenal should be targeting.
Overall I expect it to be a tight game with at most a two goal difference, both teams have struggled defensively and will be in fear of making mistakes and therefore is to be decided by individual brilliance from certain players.
A view from the other side:
DontSellCabaye wrote: Can't wait to see Wijnaldum and Thauvin link up. It's exciting having all of these new talented players in the squad, makes me think that even if we get beat we'll have moments of quality in the match regardless. Good times.
Gonna' go for 1-2, with Mbemba, Cazorla and Giroud on the scoresheet.
Programmer wrote: 0-3 Arsenal. Just can't see how we're gonna compete against them. They're superior to us in every manner. The only way we stand a chance is if we play super defensive and hope for some luck but considering yesterdays match I can't see McLaren playing defensively.
Another couple of signings and at least 6 months of experience together and we might be able to complete.
degsey66 wrote: I don't expect us to dominate the match and yes they have a strong squad but in the 1st half against Liverpool arse were aaalll ower the place, Liverpool could have and should have been 2/3 up. It wasn't just benteke, it was the movement and pace of the likes of coutinho...we could have that with Thauvin, Sissoko running at them, not to mention Gini. And yes. Mitrovic giving them a hard time and hopefully dominating in the air. It's always a tricky match against any team from the top 4 and we will have to defend well, but I'm not throwing in the towel yet, because given their injuries at the back we've every chance if we get at them

If somehow we can manage to defend, we might have a chance against their defence

Urban quoting some scrub forum I have never heard of lol, although probably a good thing so then he can't stalk me.
I would probably go.
Although McClaren will probably play Colback in the middle and Sissoko out wide and Perez on the bench sadly, but at least Obertan is seemingly out of the picture now so that's 1 problem of two removed.
Expecting to lose, but hopefully we show positive signs for the future.
I would probably go.

I can see Mitrovic giving Chambers a difficult time if Koscielny isn't fit to play. It's that side of the defence, what with two 19 year olds playing there, that worries me the most. And although Gabriel had an excellent game at Newcastle last season, we'll miss Mert/Kos if we have to defend for long periods, as it's in those situations they really shine as a partnership.
I hope we can test their midfield the same way Man Utd did last week. If they play Colback and Anita we should be looking to exploit that. With any luck we'll play with width on both sides, as we did against Palace, and not try and force the play down one side again.
Giroud turning into Drogba on them again would also be nice after his crap performance against Liverpool.

Because you Newcastle wankers are still celebrating some win against Northampton, could barely find a match thread for Arsenal.
Have to say though, almost cried tears of joy when I saw a "Is Steven Taylor underrated?" thread over at toonforum.co.uk

I would be in favour of Walcott starting either at CF or RW instead of someone.
Think we need fresh ideas upfront after our rather ineffective attacking performances of late.

Newcastle Online brah, for the most part Newcastle fans forums are full of idiots lol. Also if there is one game Giroud should start this should be it, he always scores against us for a reason lol we can't deal with anyone over 6 foot lol.

Very nice preview.
Another cup final, it so sad our season could be over so soon.
Lets hope the new and improved mighty Newcastle doesn't show and we can get the maximum points. If the same Newcastle that showed up against United last week then we in trouble.

Nah I'm serious lol, would love a win though going into the national break.
Would be a good boost before we face a team which isn't going to be playing in Europe for the first time this season after the international break lol.
I just doubt we will tbh.
