Liverpool v Bournemouth
Right, well, we got off to a good start even though the display against Stoke wasn't exactly thrilling football. Should be an easier chance to turn on the style as we host Bournemouth in this round's Monday night game.
We last faced Bournemouth in December 2014 when we beat them 1-3 in the League Cup. Sterling scored twice in that game and Markovic got his first Liverpool goal. Bournemouth had largely the same line-up in that game as they had a week ago against Aston Villa in their Premier League opener - which they lost 0-1. Fair to say we're big favorites here.
I'm guessing our line-up will be the same as against Stoke. Possibly Lallana or Ibe could be on the bench for Firmino or Can.
Obviously only a win will be a satisfactory outcome from a game like this and hopefully we'll make it a convincing one.

lallana needs to start doing something imo. seems like he always has the ball and nothing comes of it. I would drop him for this game tbh.

Its too soon for Firmino to start against a PL side, Especially Bournemouth who are in the PL to prove things. Well unlike the other teams they play really good football.

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
This is exactly a game where Firmino needs to start and begin adapting to the league. Milner-Henderson midfield needs to go, but doubt Rodgers would change anything, because he never does after he gets a win, no matter how shit the team was playing.

He's a great option for the bench on both FPL as well as Liverpool. Firmino will replace him either by performances or that 29m tag.

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
I would like to see this:
Coutinho cutting in from the left and operating in a more central playmaking position where he can play throughballs for Milner, Henderson, Benteke and Firmino while also opening up opportunities to take long shots as he likes and allowing Moreno free reign to overlap. Firmino also coming in more centrally but as a more direct threat linking up with Benteke and running through as well as pressing hard, or working a full overlap with Clyne.
Henderson, Milner and Can will all rotate in midfield as needed each covering for eachothers runs while providing industry and steel in the midfield as well as shielding the defence.
Mignolet
Clyne - Lovren - Sakho - Moreno
Can
Henderson - Milner
Firmino - Benteke - Coutinho

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
You guys should give Firmino time to settle in England while I muster the money and free transfers to work on it. Till then, IBE should be an undisputed starter.

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
I think Ibe will get to play quite a lot, if not for anything else but the fact (that I posted about in the other thread) that he offers something different by being a pure winger. When we need width, Ibe is already better than Lallana and I don't know about Firmino yet, and Cou won't be playing by the sideline.

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
The other option would be to do something similar to the first game, but replace Lallana with Firmino. A very attacking, positive side to try and pound in some early goals and then bring on Can and co. in the second half to settle.
It also is a bit more of a goal threat, IMO, as Coutinho loves to come in from the left. Having Moreno there to provide width while Firmino acts as a more direct goal threat than any of our other AMs playing as more of an SS behind Benteke.

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
Markovic had arguably his best game against Bournemouth last season in the cup. That along with Basel and Sunderland imo were his best games.
I wouldn't mind him starting tbh. Over Lallana or Ibe.

mate you think it is an attacking side but it is unbalanced. I didnt even watch the preseason game where they played that Hendo and Milner together. But for me it is quite clear it wont work.

What's unbalanced about it? It has worked fine when used so far (the formation that is).

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
Probably the fact that both Milner and Henderson are workhorses and don't particularly hold their position very well which is why they are always paired with someone who does.
Long term, one of them will have to be dropped for Can or one of the attacking 3 behind Benteke will.

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
When have they been paired with someone who holds position well?
Why? Can is the same mould as the both of them -- they're all runners. The thing is that both Henderson and Milner read the game well. When they played that formation in pre-season they stayed back quite well and shielded the defence. Same thing in the first half against Stoke, and before bringing Can on.

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
ok my earlier post did not get posted.
I am curious, because I dont remember that two man midfield under Rodgers has been successfull for us and we are talking specifically about Hendo and Milner.
Hendo and Milner both are type of players that their pressing is more useful when they play in front of a deep MF. ffs, people here name Henderson as one of the best B2B in the league and you want to play him as a deep midfielder. Tbh, he does not have qualities to play as one and we see that against Stoke. He was really slow to do anything.
And apart from that, Firmino is the only player in the front attack that is likely to make runs behind the defense. And Firmino as of now is not a starter anyways. So Henderson and Milner need to play in the front so that we are not predictable and have more movement in front of opposition defensive lines. That one run by Henderson against Stoke is enough of an example why he needs to play as a B2B and not anything else.

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
@DJDanRoach: Team is unchanged tomorrow. I would've been tempted to start Can & Firmino myself, but as was. #LFC
So looks like:
Mignolet
Clyne - Skrtel - Lovren - Gomez
Henderson - Milner
Ibe - Coutinho - Lallana
Benteke
Clyne - Skrtel - Lovren - Gomez
Henderson - Milner
Ibe - Coutinho - Lallana
Benteke
Hum...would prefer to see Firmino at least start over Lallana and be the SS with Coutinho on the left. Oh well. I hope that they maybe try to use Lallana more that way since his decision making with the ball is a bit too slow in terms of passing but he has a nice touch and shot. Would prefer him in behind Benteke with Coutinho on the left.

Re: Liverpool v Bournemouth
Would have been a good game to give Firmino a start, but I'm sure he'll get 30 minutes in the end, then.
But fk me, Lovren actually is preferred to Sakho. Insanity.
