Haters gonna hate but Merson is vindicated, absolute garbage defender, is any 23 or below these days automatically have potential?

That was after 67 minutes.

John Stones' game by numbers vs. Feyenoord:

134 passes
131 completed
100% aerial duels won
100% tackles won
7 clearances
2 shots
2 goals

Thats just rediculous.

Call me skeptical until I see him do it against a top team. I think he's talented and I've always been a fan, but he's got a ways to go yet. Improving though.

By that logic, Zappacosta is the worlds great RWB. Laughing

It's one game against scrubs, if he does it for a season, I'll rate him.

Stones not even getting a game when no other CB is fit, Pep preferring a Rodri-Fernandinho central defense lmao

He wasn't fit I think. Not that he is a great CB but he will be starting soon enough again.

He's playing with an authority and control he didn't have before. Seems to have coincided with Dias settling in to the team so I don't know if he'll play the same way when he's recalled to the England team. I hope so because I really like this version of Stones and England can do with quality at centre back again.

He's doing thinks that Dias could not be attributed for. Mainly Stone's is simply not getting bullied by strikers. Isn't endlessly backing off attackers like he use to. He seems to have put on some muscles and he's gotten stronger and more aggressive. Finally living up to his potential. He use to have like handful of defensive blunders every season except this season. Haven't made a mistake this season or at least one that I can remember.

This is the best he's ever looked, but he looked quite good in 2018. It's taken him 2-3 years to pick up his form again.

I don't know still. Yes, he has all that going for him, but if you asked me how BVB scores against City in the CL, I'd say it comes from Stones misplacing a pass to Haaland. Laughing

It’s a shame he’s injured so much because since 20/21 whenever he does play he’s arguably City’s best defender. For a CB he’s a ridiculously complete footballer.

He can play in midfield, he can play RB, he can play high line and defend deep. Great technical skills and has the athleticism to cope with pacy attackers. He struggles with leadership, but with Dias by his side there’s no worry.

Always saw he had the technical game down but today I saw how he can actually hustle. He's earned the starting lineup now surely.

The modern interpretation to the libero role.

He doesn’t carry the ball into midfield like Beckenbauer but instead receives it back to goal like a DM. His skillset is insane.
