Liverpool v Manchester City
Going out of two European competitions in one season against Basel and Besiktas, how about that. Combined those two teams spent about £25m in transfer fees in the summer while we spent around £100m, but oh well.
Yes, I'm still gutted about our latest bad performance in Europe.
However, on Sunday it's a big, important game as far as getting into Europe again next season goes. Hopefully into the richer of the two competitions, so we'll have the dough to easily out-spend the teams we'll be going out against next season, eh?
Okay, enough about the negativity. Beat Manchester City on Sunday and we'll be on the high again. The fight for top-4 is incredibly tight, 48, 47, 46, 45, 44 read the points from 3rd to 7th. We're 6th right now and unbeaten in 10 in the Premier League.
I do fancy our chances against City at Anfield. They are definitely beatable and have not been in great form lately; only 3 wins in their last 8 PL games - albeit they have won the last two with a 9-1 GD.
I don't know who's fit to start, I really hope Henderson and Sakho are. If Gerrard is fit, he shouldn't start. Sturridge's form & fitness looked really worrying against Besiktas, hopefully he will be unshackled at Anfield. City should have everyone fit.
The team I'd play:

We'll dominate the game (like we normally do against them at Anfield) but they'll score.
Hopefully we score more...

If Henderson and Coutinho are back I will feel a lot better than the alternative.

Really can't get myself motivated for this.
I had dreams about EL especially with final being in Warsaw.
Most important game of the season is Blackburn at H for me now.

I feel like the contract stuff is getting to Sterling...could be wrong, but he has looked off since coming back from Jamaica TBH. Sturridge hasn't looked good at all since his return from injury outside of very short moments, and his decision making is oy.
Right now Henderson and Coutinho are the heart of this team and they need to be healthy and firing for us to finish the season successfully IMO.

Re: Liverpool v Manchester City
I don't think the contract issue would make Sterling play the way he has. Maybe he got too used to playing striker in mid-season when Sturridge was out and no one else was delivering, because now he's been playing further down he has still looked like he thought he was playing striker, if you know what I mean. He used to be so good last season taking the ball in midfield or in the tip of the diamond and driving forward and playing good passes forward and making runs. Now he looks like he's playing striker in all areas of the pitch.

spot on Marty, I thought the same and wanted to post in the Sterling thread ! I feel the same, he is suffering from that syndrome. I hope he picks up it soon and soon enough means from this game.

Btw, Allens contribution is going decide this game. You will realise it on Sunday, what I am saying.

Allen is not incisive enough to play in this system. In this 2 man midfield you need a destroyer and a creative passer. Henderson Lucas is the best pairing we have.
Allen though is easily the best recycler of the ball in the team, He never loses it even when surrounded by 4 men unlike the rest of the team.
I just want us to score in this game. The bluntness in attack is making me restless.

I don't understand why this game has to be at midday? These EPL/FA guys are really some creeps. They could have had the game around evening and allowed Liverpool some extra (and vital) hours of rest.

He can, not as good as Henderson but still he can. he just needs some confidence. In the City game, I hope to see the same Allen as we saw i his starting three months.

Coutinho fit to play. Henderson to face late fitness test. No words on Sakho.

Thank god Coutinho will be in. We badly lacked his creativity against Besiktas.
I'm fine with Allen in midfield. He is improving every game and I think he can still contribute to this team. As someone else said his confidence is growing and as it comes back he can be a valuable player.

Re: Liverpool v Manchester City
Confirmed #LFC team v @MCFC: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Lovren, Henderson, Allen, Moreno, Markovic, Lallana, Coutinho, Sterling
Man, Lovren starts and no Sturridge... He's on the bench with Balotelli, Lambert and Borini... I don't know what's the point of having them all on the bench.
Suddenly I'm not feeling that confident.

Re: Liverpool v Manchester City
Frankly, Sturridge hasn't been that great recently. But yes, him upfront would have given me some confidence/comfort too. Big match for Markovic. He has been poor recently and he will be replacing someone (Ibe) who was quite good. Lovren for Sakho is unavoidable I guess.Art Morte wrote:Confirmed #LFC team v @MCFC: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Lovren, Henderson, Allen, Moreno, Markovic, Lallana, Coutinho, Sterling

Re: Liverpool v Manchester City
Tactically we're playing so well. Best pressing from us all season. Defensively a bit too risky. But man the game is entertainment at its best.
Lallana should've score that Markovic flick. And Sterling right at 45 mins ffs from the Lallana backheel.
Both teams defenses look vulnerable. But man we can do this.
Credit to Allen and Coutinho. Two of the best players on the pitch. Sterling and Lallana playing great as well.

Re: Liverpool v Manchester City
A decent half, but should have scored more. Sterling, why didn't you do better at the end there?
Henderson
Their equalizer was a little disappointing, three of our midfielders on Aguero but they still let him play that pass. Skrtel gave Dzeko too much space. But it's really our finishing why we are not leading, we've created enough chances.
Moreno is being a bit disappointing again whereas Markovic is playing pretty well. I'd really like to see Ibe in that LWB spot. Hopefully Sturridge is fit enough to make an impact in the second half.

The two-man central midfield is risky against City as they have one of their strikers + Silva playing between the midfield and defense lines. If we had a third, defensive CM behind Hendo & Allen it would help a great deal in this game. I'm constantly scared of Silva finding space in between the lines and playing it to Dzeko or Aguero.

Can was ball watching for their goal as well. Really shit goal to concede. Way too many mistakes made by too many players to blame just one guy.
