incidentally the world cup went on to break all kind of revenue and ratings record in that 5 years period , so ' yes'body cares apparently .

the world cup is as important as ever , your opinion of it only concerns you tbh .

Despite the winners of it being battered at club level two years running.

Seems legit.

Let me put it these way.

Those World Cup TROPHIES, Pele and Maradona helped their team to win, the GOALS they scored on the KNOCKOUT STAGES that made their team WIN are much more important than silver medals and *bleep* Olympic gold and "best young player" that Messi has.

Wake me up when Messi actually does those things.

you can say that .

but i can also say that the winners of it were mostly a combination of two champions league finalists from the previous year .

National career lows:

Cruyff - Netherlands lost with and won without Cruyff in EURO76
Di Stefano - Failed to qualify with Spain to WC58 with the likes of Gento, Suarez and Kubala
Maradona - Lost 3 games out of 5 in WC82 with defending champions
Pele - WC66 got dumbed out of the group with defending champions, who even won WC62 without him
Messi - hmm

Messi @28 for NT

WC14 runner-up, Golden Ball
CA15 runner-up, MVP
CA07 runner-up, Best Young Player
Olympic Gold
WCu20 champion, Golden Ball

Pele

WC70 champion, Golden Ball
WC58 champion, Silver Ball
CA59-1 runner-up, MVP

Maradona

WC86 champion, Golden Ball
WC90 runner-up, Bronze Ball
WCu20 champion, Golden Ball

Cruyff

WC74 runner-up, Golden Ball

Di Stefano

CA47 champion

Because they are playing 60 games and going straight into it, don't delude yourself into thinking this isn't a factor. Which explains why there is so many scrubs who look good in tournaments but when the new season comes around they flop.

As i said Germany are basically Bayern minus the front 3 and they have been reamed by the best in Europe two seasons running.

The only place where I have seen people blame Messi for the defeat is at GL, most people are scapegoating Higuain.

And you are blaming Pele for defenders breaking his legs rofl

Higuain is the main culprit obviously. He has a thread dedicated to his flopping. Messi shares the blame too for not stepping up.

dem selective points .
you somehow keep ignoring that two german clubs were in the CL final a year before the WC and that guardiola's failures and odd choices ( mainly benching Kroos and Piggy ) means that Bayern shouldn't be used as a benchmark for Germany .

we also what a guardiola inspired Germant looks like against Algeria .

And what does stepping up mean? He was clearly Argentina's best player yesterday, as he was in every Argentina game I have seen this tournament (all but the first vs Paraguay). Is he really expected to dribble six players and score a goal every match?

Yes, he's done now 3 times what Maradona did once, he needs to do it 500 times.

He needs to make his team win a trophy. And running around once in a while instead of walking like he did yesterday would help, maybe a few goals in the knockout stages won't hurt either.

lot of national teams are better than Juve, so Maybe .
regardless of what i think of these fantasy match ups , that doesn't mean international football doesn't matter .

you can't just say that the thing football fans and players care about THE MOST is pointless just because you think so . Laughing

as long as every world class player cares about the WC , as long as players like Messi , Di maria , Aguero etc... say that they'd trade all their trophies for some NT silverware , as long as players like Suarez break down in tears after sending their team to the second round of the " pointless " tournament's second round , the WC will remain king .

same bench player who was instrumental to his team reaching the superior  champions league final the previous year Laughing

can't wait until next year when suddenly NT football will matter again and a certain player's performances will be  put under the microscope by " neutrals " like you . Laughing
