1984 Cup Winners Cup
I was just watching full match on you tube today. Barcelona already had 2-0 advantage going into this match. But somehow they lost it by losing by 3-0 in the second leg.Best player in the world(Martin Taylor was saying) Maradona was basically invisible whole match and wasted one good chance.
Some time we become too much nostalgic that yesterday player was always performed in big games which was not true.
Full Match Link if any of you interested.
Part one
Part two
Part Three
Part four

whether it's garbage cup or not ,the fact is with best player in world and two goal advantage somehow Barcelona lost it.
The player from both side actually cared about this cup.Look at the Celebration

Re: 1984 Cup Winners Cup
As time passes by we would remember players' achievements in bigs games instead of their '' failures ''. In 5 or 6 years from now Robben would be more remembered for his goal in 2013 CL final than his PK missed in 2012. I meam who's talking about Drogba's stupid red card in 2008 ( a failure in a big game ) or the P.K Messi missed against Cjelsea in 2012 ?
As long as a player have some iconic/great performances ,those will be his legacy.

Re: 1984 Cup Winners Cup
Context matters a lot.
There are a couple of things to consider, firstly maradona recently broke his ankle, missed three and a half months, returned in January, this match was played in March, and in between he was being played every week. He was physically burning out at that time thanks to menotti, trust me I remember seeing him against real Madrid around that time and his movement made last season's messi look like a Duracell bunny.
Secondly, this was just after he had a major spat with the Barcelona president and demanded to be sold.
It was a bad time to play a super charged match against Manchester United at old Trafford.
As for the scoreline Barcelona were missing first choice defenders.
