Are the Invincibles back? Empty Are the Invincibles back?

Post by Katy Perry Sun Jan 18, 2015 10:19 pm

All this season I've heard how Chelsea was touted to be the next Invincibles, but what if it is the same Arsenal? I think that without his nemesis SAF Arsene really will dominate the league again. Maybe not this season as we're very distant, but they can absolutely get that 2nd place after we destroy City and they drop other points due to Yaya being away and the next season they'll be favourites to win it.

I mean last season Arsenal was already walking the league but only got crippled by injuries when they were in their peak and for this season I've always heard how Arsenal lacked grit and steel and personality and defensive stability in the big games and Coquelin brings that exactly, plus with Koscielny back they have a WC defender that improves the whole defense and with Bellerin Chambers can give depth in the CB position which is his natural role and they finally benched that travesty of keeper and who will stop them when Oezil and Walcott will be back?

Like I said, I expect them to secure the 2nd place and go far in the Fa Cup and CL this season and win the PL the next.

The invincibles Arsenal is back.

Why are the "invincibles" called that anyway? Didn't they lose at home and crash out of the CL quarter finals? hmm

My best guess is that this thread is an attempted knee-jerk jinx. Beyond that, it makes no sense whatsoever. Laughing

Also, that wasn't just unbeaten in the league for one season, it was a run of 49 (domestic) games undefeated. It was by no means an easy feat, especially as nobody has done it in England in a decade since, or done it earlier before that team. The (usually butthurt) critique is of course the cup defeats to Middlesborough, United and Chelsea iirc, although each had its own set of mitigating circumstances which are easily overlooked, given that it is an easy way to put down what the 'Invincible' did achieve.

EDIT: The earlier 'Invincible' were Preston North End from the 1888-89 season when they won 18 and drew 4 in the league and also won the FA Cup.

Bro my team won the CL and league both unbeaten in one season but I'd never call them invincible as they lost a game in the cup.

I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

Ajax? The invincibles thing is just a way to glorify them. Typical English media. Someone actually tried comparing them to Guardiola's Barcelona. Everyone seems to have forgotten Pires(?) dive in the last game that led to a penalty in the final moments of the game. Invincibles indeed.

Let's not forget then though that their unbeaten run ended due to a Rooney dive, while we're at it jibers.
