RvP tries to run in behind too much, sometimes he has to come search for the ball like Falcao. When a team plays deep like Stoke today, it's so hard to find RvP because they become impossible balls over the top so our players just ignore him. This is the reason for his low number of touches. I can't see why he can't adapt, Falcao had two assists in total for Monaco and Atleti and has 3 in 6 games now. RvP should be able to do the same.

Our attack lacks balance anyway, especially when there's no Di Maria. I'd rather play Januzaj when Di Maria is not there even if he plays shit at least we can play him into form. Long term Mata-Rvp-Falcao-Rooney doesn't work and we lack pace. Balance>>>> names. Maybe, LvG will start to practice what he preaches.

One of the most glaring problems away from home is how our midfield gets bypassed. That's why starting Herrera, while Blind is out, is essential. He links up the play from the defence and transitions the play into attack well.

We play too many long balls for my liking and that stems from having Evans(biggest culprit), Smalling and Jones being uncomfortable passing the ball out from defence and starting the play.

LVG is making the mistake atm with overloading the big names on the team sheet. Has got to drop either one of RVP or Falcao, move Rooney back up top and have Herrera back in midfield.

First XI should look something like

Defence
Blind
Herrera-Fellaini/Carrick*
Rooney
Di Maria**-Falcao

*Maybe Carrick can reinvent himself as a CM again. Fellaini can be useful when used properly but if we get someone like Strootman then he'll play LCM instead.

** Di Maria not LCM because I'm not sure if LvG likes him there (I do though). He's not a good finisher however, even if it is a free role. At least ADM stretches the play, which we sorely miss.

Rotate with the diamond and 4-3-3 (when we need to be defensively solid)

we were playing great in the diamond i don't understand why LVG moved away from it...maybe do to injuries....hopefully he returns to it when fully fit

or buys proper wingers and plays 4-3-3

Our current team reminds me of the Glacticos after 2002. Just names on paper with no balance. Hopefully we improve next year. Thank God the league is terrible, so we actually have a chance of finishing in the top 4. Can someone explain why Mata is in the team? On the counter attack we labour on the ball. We need Di Maria back ASAP. Hopefully we go for Strootman within the next 2 transfer windows.

I went on RedCafe saw they thought Mata had a good game and gave up. Even if he has a good half or pass or something he'll always be prone to games where he goes missing like yesterday, and it's just too often. I don't like our the style of play we play when he's there either, it's too slow. I didn't want to criticise him yesterday, because I always critictise him, but the guys a *bleep* passenger, I hate passengers. Spanish Cleverley gets away with far too much.

agreed, once we buy a pacy winger/wide forward like Depay or someone else. di maria can go back to midfield, and the former can play the robben-esque role partnering the cf falcao. rues would have been ideal. but now since chelsea too are for him all thanks to the drubbing they got yesterday, its looking less likely we will get reus.
However if di maria can play there effectively as a wide forward, then we can purchase strootman and partner him with herrera.

3-5-2 again. Looks like it's here to stay. Even with our full backs back from injury. LVG doesn't trust our cb enough to play it, or waiting to get adequate quality before we revert to a back four.

No Januzaj in the starting 11, thought he'd get a chance. Fletcher in the starting 11, even though he's past it, this is his level so he should be alright(maybe). No Evans- Yes! Falcao gets another start- nice! Good to see Herrera back in the starting 11.
