I'm frankly pretty damn interested in that version of Pan.

Looks rather good.

As for Jurassic World....well....that looks decidedly meh.

The movie trailer really is an extraordinary phenomenon. Considering writing my next exam on how it affects the viewer of it. It really seems like an unwinable scenario for the viewer.
1. It doesn't show enough, no one wants to watch the movie.
2. It shows too much, people are really annoyed with it.

I don't really know what's wrong about the Jurassic Park trailer, the trailer has so get the feeling of the movie without ruining it. CGI is amazing at this point in production, and they usually doesn't show this much, this far away release. And the whole raptor argument, I can't see what's wrong about that. We haven't seen the movie yet, so it will probably be explained by then.
Trailers have to get the feeling of a movie right, it doesn't have to explain everything, that is up for the movie to do.

Not directed at you McLewis, I understand if you didn't feel excited about the feeling about the trailer, but the constant criticism I've been reading about CGI and raptors today are borderline annoying.

Also that Pan movie looks really interesting, can't wait to relive my childhood by watching that.

Watched Birdman. I was so glad to see Edward Norton putting on a GOAT performance again. This guy has been under the radar for too long. One of my favorite actors ever, hope he gets nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Looper is very good. One of my favourite films from its year. Sure it isn't flawless, but focus on what makes it good!

Btw, tonight I'm watching Boyhood.

What is this guy on?
Those kids talking to each other, putting on their twitter or kissing their girlfriend obviously know nothing about storytelling. How can it be absurd to bring psychological realism into a superhero movie? Someone tell this man, that there are most often a human side to a superhero as well.
Human side: Bruce Wayne
Superhero side: Batman
And as far as I know psychology is a part of every human being on Earth, so pls go with your 'absurd'.
Furthermore, Batman is the most probable superhero you can build a story of psychological realism around. Because he doesn't have supernatural powers and he witnessed his parents death at a young age.

And also, I hate when people look down on TDKR.
The Dark Knight remains one of the most critically and fan-acclaimed films of all time, though the follow-up The Dark Knight Rises was met with a more lukewarm reaction.
lukewarm Laughing
It has 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.6 on iMDB

The Movie House - Part 4 - Page 11 Empty Re: The Movie House - Part 4

Post by Forza Fri Nov 28, 2014 1:08 pm

I haven't read the linked article, but I also dislike the recent attempts to make superhero movies serious. Superheros are inherently unrealistic and films about them should have a good sense of humour and dramatic flair. Watching a man walk around dressed as a bat and fighting themed villains is inherently ridiculous. Don't you agree?

Of course, there is always a base level of character which comes attached to the inevitable and predictable 'superhero sacrifices himself to save the world' plot. However, I find recent incarnations of superheros are asking the audience to make a few leaps too far by endowing superheros with needlessly complex psyches. I really cant sympathise with Batman's personal problems as if he's meant to be an ordinary man like you or I. I understand that he's under pressure to save the city, and perhaps there's a romantic sub-plot, but beyond that I couldn't care less.

If I saw a man running around in a bat costume in real life, my immediate reaction would not be to ponder why, but to laugh. That is not to say that the man running around in the costume isn't entertaining - he is - but I think that Batman is a shallow man and a shallow idea, of which we can learn little more than the usual clichés.

Finally, consensus of critical acclaim is meaningless. Watch the films you like and form your own opinion. Don't be bothered by other people's ratings and scores. When you watch or read a movie critique, the most important aspect is to understand his or her reasoning as to why that score was given, not the score itself.

~~~
Regarding Looper, I thought the film was generally good, but unnecessarily slow paced and predictable. Also, I thought the character's motivation was quite weak. The idea of going forward in time to save one person, only to kill several in the process didn't really get me on side with the main character at any stage.
One of the best at that imo.
Best teaser I've seen is still the Batman v. Superman one. Damn that was great.
Nothing special in my opinion. The lightsaber was legit though.
And yeah Batman v Superman teaser is one of the best i've seen.
Ben Affleck will nail the role.
Boyhood
WOW!
Richard Linklater :bow: he already scored some good points on me with his Before trilogy. And this just adds to the points.
It's truly unique for starters - you know how it was filmed over 12 years and all that.
Yes, nothing extraordinary happens. There's no life changing moments or plot twists. And that's what makes this movie. It's realism. Just an ordinary, average boy in your average American family going through life and it's so relatable.
Editing was brilliant, everything just falled in place, wasn't bored for a second. Loved Ethan Hawke's character - he is not a perfect man, he made his mistakes, but he was always there for his children and he delivered some of the more powerful scenes in the movie, especially that one in the end with his son where they talk about "what's the point of all this." And he says "well, shit I don't know. Neither does no one." Pretty relatable with me as I'm at the point of my life in which I'm asking those sorts of questions and looking for meaningful answers in my life.
Furthermore, think this one will go into the history books for it's uniqueness.
Second best movie of the year so far for me. Enemy still leading. Busy season coming up, still lots of big movies for me to watch. Fury up next, maybe Sunday night if all goes well.
My rating: 8.2/10
Watched four movies today while I've been lying in my bed ill.
Didn't make me feel that much better to be honest.
Dinner for Schmucks – brainless comedy but actually really fun. Steve Carrell is my favourite comedic actor of all time, so kind of biased. 3/5.
When The Game Stands Tall – Probably the first american football film I didn't enjoy or like. Boring as hell, boring story telling. Jim Caviezel, as much as I love him, didn't help either. No interesting characters what so ever. 1.5/5
Obvious Child – best of the bunch I watched today, a really generic indie film, with the twenty-something young adult who doesn't know her/his place in life just yet, and just wanders around. The fact that there's a female protagonist is very great though, and I would love more female led movies, especially if they're carried by actresses with as much character as Jenny Slate, who is just fantastic in this role. 3.5/5
Million Dollar Arm – very generic feel-good sports movie. But it was just nice to see Jon Hamm, even though he isn't that challenged acting wise in this film. The indian dude Amit was also hell of enjoyable. And Lake Bell is just amazing, she has this aura about her that makes you like instantly. And I can definitely recommend her in In A World where she shines. 3/5
So I watched Interstellar on Imax. It was a great cinema experience but I was disappointed. It was a good movie but I found Dark Knight, The Prestige, Memento and Inception better. The emotional parts, musical score, acting and of course visuals were really really good. Loved how they used no sound in space, Cooper and TARS.
I think Jake Gyllenhaal is one of my favorite actors now. Nightcrawler, Donnie Darko, Prisoners, Enemy, End of Watch, this guy is really good at what he does. Split between him and Keaton for best acting performance of the year for what I have seen so far.
Yeah smart, good little film.
I didn't guess it at all, just near the end when they made it clear.
Think it is one of those which you have to watch twice to really appreciate the film.
