It's like Ivory coast won a contest to participate. Clear cut chance for them to score on a 3 v 2. Somehow messed it up.

Germany looking very suspect against the counter. A top team might punish them.

Germany 2011 was amazing. This feels absolutely nothing like it. It honestly so far has the feel and production value of an NWSL game. These stadium locations should not have been approved. Right now the Norway game, the stadium has two massive open ends, people are sat a million miles away, it sucks. The pitch looks as hard as a rock.
Germany 2011 showed how proper stadiums, fan interaction and high production value coverage can make the Women's World Cup feel like a real World Cup, a real world event. This does not at all.
at least Canada is supporting the women's game...you know they were the only country to bid for the world cup, people want to complain *cough*american players*cough* but you wouldn't have a world cup if it wasn't for us, sure having grass would be ideal or the stadiums be actual soccer stadiums but let's not slag Canada for hosting when no other country wanted to.
the financials don't make sense to be building new stadiums or ripping up turf for this tournament, all of these are american football stadiums
BMO Field in Toronto (the national stadium and best soccer stadium in the country) has grass but it was not chosen as a host because of the Pan Am games going on at the same time in Toronto.
I mean we only have 3 clubs in the top tear of North American Soccer pyramid, the game isn't established like Germany with all it's infrastructure already there.
and there have been great crowds so far

5-0 now. Still 55 mins to go.
I'm only keeping half an eye on the match but every time I look up I see German players in behind Ivory Coast's defence. This is the first time I've seen the Ivory Coast women's team, but I'm going to assume they aren't very good.

This is embarrassing. They are playing an offside trap down the halfway line

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
American players were complaining for the same reason basically every top player (including Sinclair, if I recall correctly): the artificial turf. They have no issue with the tournament being held in Canada and it's frankly a bit sad that you're trying to suggest as much.
This match is honestly getting painful to watch, and not only because I'm forced to rely on the worst stream on the internet to do so, what with the television channel still being off-air...

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
I assume that women's football in Africa is quite under developed compared to Europe and America. Sweden vs Nigeria later on will give a better indication to that assumption.

.
not at all what i'm saying but ok then...he called it embarrassing so far which is a bit strong to me to say such a thing over just a stadium with open ends and turf.
I simply said well there wasn't any other candidates so let's give us a break here sure we don't have the ideal stadiums to host it in (because of the TURF) but we are supporting the women's game and the crowds have been large.
whole post is about the turf...not about anyone having a problem with it being in Canada.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Except that it would not be terribly difficult to bring in actual grass rather than artificial turf. The issue raised is that the Canadian Football Federation, in no small part due to FIFA, was unwilling to do so. One person making a complaint about stadium size and design is not at all a reason to have a go at players/others, particularly singling out one specific group that was A) part of a larger, comprehensive complaint that INCLUDED Canadian players and B) was making a strong complaint regarding an issue only tangentially related to the post to which you claim to be responding.

Cote d'Ivoire getting a bit nasty and physical in their challenges now. Hopefully the referee can keep this under control so we don't see any injuries.

except most of these stadiums are Canadian Football League stadiums that real grass would get destroyed being played on after the world cup. and that the Canadian Football League season starts right after the womens world cup ends....they have artificial turf in these stadiums because they are easy to maintain during Canadian Football League seasons.
the CSA (Canadian Soccer Association) is essentially borrowing these venues from Canadian Football League franchises who play in these stadiums when the World cup is not here. Why would they (the CFL franchises) want to change anything as it doesn't benefit them and there sport.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
By the way, from what I heard there were some threats of the CIV staff towards the German staff before the match. Very bad idea that, CIV. Very bad idea. Germany doesn't take well to threats. Maybe we would have scored less if CIV hadn't trolled

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
The Canadian Football League doesn't start until late June/early July. Surely they could train elsewhere for the few weeks the stadiums are used for the WWC? Regardless, the complaints are with FIFA, not Canada... why react like a rabid nationalist and assume its meant to be an insult, just to cause unnecessary disputes over it?

i'm a Canadian so if I find it insulting to call it a embarrassment...deal with it

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
I'm curious how Sweden vs Nigeria will pan out (match is 15 minutes running atm, 0:0). Sweden is traditionally pretty strong and Nigeria were runners-up of last year's U20 World Cup.
And an own goal by Nigeria in the 20th minute....
2:0 by Nilla Fischer in the 31st minute. Talk about efficiency!

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Feel for Nigeria a bit. They've honestly been the better side in open play but lack any sense of organization in defending set pieces.

Re: 2015 Women's World Cup
Fully deserved turn around for Nigeria. Have to say though, that I don't think any team will be too scared of either of these sides with what they've shown so far. Neither appears confident or even competent in defense most of the time.

Really enjoying the Sweden/Nigeria game right now. Nigeria missed a sitter that would have drawn them level again.
