*sighs* The ref performances this year left a lot to be desired in all areas (for both guys & gals).

Let's hope that Bibi will do better in Canada vs New Zealand... (Bibiana Steinhaus even refs men's games up to the 2nd Bundesliga or works as 4th official in the Bundesliga proper.)

o_O Break in the match CAN vs NZE because it is hailing huge hailstones... According to the commentator they even got a tornado warning for that match.

Is it my impression that all the referee decisions were going against Norway?

Hm. Dunno about Norway. The only booking in that match was against Germany, and Norway got an FK that they nicely converted to the goal. Can't really remember that anything outrageous was decided in that match. The Thailand match was bad ref-wise, though.

Isabell Herlovsen was tackled throughout the match and no fouls were called. When she touched a German player, it was a sure foul against her.

Hm. I'd have to watch the match again (was a bit busy so looked away from the screen once in a while and might have missed some stuff).

Back from the Canada game; we really need to find something to work with in attack, the pace and creativity to break down teams just is not there. But, we are top of Group A so through two games, everything went OK I guess.

Things will probably get easier when you go against teams that are more active themselves. And the New Zealand goalie wasn't that bad either.

So Australia defeated Nigeria 2:0 and at halftime, Switzerland leads 2:0 against Ecuador.

And right now,  the top match of the day will kick off between the USWNT and Sweden. Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan are currently sitting on the bench, so that they can be subbed in as impact subs if need be.

Switzerland's Fabienne Humm just scored a hattrick within 5 minutes

By now it is Switzerland 6:0 Ecuador after 60 minutes playing time.

Switzerland - Ecuador is a goal festival. In the 62nd minute, it is 7:1 now XD

I guess it shows that most Swiss players play in the German Bundesliga and they have a German coach XD (Although Fabienne Humm is currently plying her trade for FC Zürich - but I'd expect her to get quite some offers by other top clubs now.)

8:1 now - with the second (!) own goal by Angie Ponce, who scored a hattrick, too. Twice into her own net, once into the Swiss goal (a penalty, that).

And Martina Moser of the TSG Hoffenheim scored the 9:1. Switzerland unleashed!

Now the 10:1 by Ramona Bachmann of FC Rosengard (Swedish champions), who completed her hattrick, too.

FT - Switzerland 10:1 Ecuador

Mind you, this is only the second ever match that Switzerland played in a World Cup as they never qualified before - and thus their first ever win, which was a historical moment. And what a goal fest today! This is the third highest win ever in a World Cup.

Fun fact: 18-year old Angie Ponce of Ecuador made history by scoring the first ever World Cup goal for two different national teams today. For Switzerland via her own goal leading to the 1:0, and for Ecuador when she scored the penalty for the consolation goal.

Strange decisions from both managers in the US-Sweden match.  Not sure why the US opted for the attack they did to start with, and think that it may have ultimately cost them three points not to start a stronger attacking line.  As for Sweden, I can't figure out why they seemed to be ok with a draw in that match.  Yes, they looked dangerous at times on the counter but they never seemed to actually push for a win when they really needed 3 points after Australia's victory today.

Also, why was the referee so reluctant to give a penalty?  There were 4 or 5 pretty solid shouts for penalties from handballs and fouls.  Given how strict the referee was calling the corners it's quite odd that she absolutely refused to give a penalty to either side.

Beyond the clearance by Krieger in the first half and Klingenberg's goal line clearance in the 2nd, Sweden's finishing was pretty shocking.

We also looked pretty toothless as well though, but their defense absolutely as miserly as ours. I don't think we properly challenged their keeper once. Odd to see from a team so much firepower as us.

Fun game nonetheless.

Yeah, it was a tense match, but the ref really should have given at least two hand penalties - one for Sweden and one for the US. IMO this would have made the match better as the first penalty probably would have forced the US to sub in Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan earlier, I think.

And it's Japan 1:0 Cameroon in the 6th minute.

Handball penalties aside, the US could easily have had a penalty or two for the grabbing and challenges Sweden utilized in the box in both halves as well.

True that. Hm. Sweden very well might not get out of the group... They really should have taken Nigeria more serious.

And Japan scored the 2:0

By the way, Japan's Kozue Ando (Champions League winner with 1.FFC Frankfurt this year) broke her ankle in the match against Switzerland. Sad

I was impressed by the defensive play of Julie Johnston.  She seemed to be everywhere. Hopefully this doesn't sound too sexist but damn, she is nice looking too!

Really well-taken goal from Fran Kirby for England. Leading 1-0 against Mexico, though it took a while.

The group will be very interesting should England win, thanks to Colombia beating France 2-0 earlier.
