Luis Enrique: "Controversial Liga awards? They should make the votes public. There should be nothing to hide..."

note: despite finishing 3rd last season, madrid won almost all main liga awards this week, several reports about manipulation of votes

- Also Messi wasn't even nominated best player, best american player last season, despite having the same stats as Cronaldo and finishing higher, to ensure Cronaldo win.

Paco Aguilar is no longer Spanish journalist to vote for Ballon d'Or after last year's Madrid-inspired manipulation to let Ronaldo win. [md]

Aguilar says Ballon d'Or co-organizer France Football has turned into a Real Madrid fanzine and that he has been victim of mobbing. [md]

Hopefully this will blow out. Laughing

I find it odd that the team that won La Liga didn't have a single player winning an award.

The best defender and attacking midfielder should have gone to Godin and Koke instead of Ramos and Iniesta.

Godin should've won for sure not so certain about Koke though...

The oddness started last year, when Ballon d'Or deadline suddenly got extension including to ability to change the vote.

Dem pre Balon d'or tears from Jiopsi. Can't wait to see Jiopsi's reaction if CR wins Balon d'or again.

The only award that was controversial was Ramos, that should have gone to Miranda.

Modric was the best midfielder last season.

Ronaldo was the best forward/player and he did score the best goal.

Not sure what all this uproar is about, Madrid beat Atleti in two out of the three competitions that they played against each other in.

Atleti and their players should be happy that they even won the league in the first place. Even then winning it as a team doesn't all of a sudden make them elite individually.

You'd never know Madrid actually finished third if you watched that award show.

Atleti won a League title against all the odds and won *bleep* all. No Madrid player should have won a single thing.

It should have been a clean sweep between Gabi , Miranda (Godin should have won but he wasn't even nominated rofl), Courtois, Costa & Koke.

Simione won best coach though, which makes sense because without him then Atleti are nowhere near winning the league. Atleti's players are not elite, they are strong collective unit.

Koke should have won as well, but Iniesta got that one which was arguably the worst award of the night.

CR and Modric deserved their awards imo and Navas won his deservedly for putting in an epic season individually with Levante.

Just because your team wins doesn't mean that you have the best individual players though. I don't think Germany, at the WC, had the best single player at any position really except keeper (Lahm at FB as well, but he wasn't playing FB all tournament). They won and beat the team with someone who many consider to have the best player in the world in Messi. However, they did have a WC level of talent across the board.

Would you really look at the Atletico roster and tell me they have a better player at any position (besides CB maybe) than Madrid do? No. The awards make sense...their team just had a strong tactic, will and consistency.

Big men literally crying over spilled milk. Personally, I would have given Gabi best midfielder, Koke best attacking midfielder and Godin best defender but there is nothing wrong with Modric winning best midfielder. He was just as consistent as Gabi and just as influential. Ramos had no business being nominated far less winning so that would one is nonsense.

Um, Navas was the best keeper in La Liga last season so I'm not even sure what Gil is on about. Simeone deservedly won Manager of the year. Not even gonna touch Bacca winning best American award and Ronaldo was the Pichichi winner and Costa is no longer playing in La Liga.

Anyway, Atletico players won the only trophy worth winning: Liga BBVA so once again, much ado about nothing. As if Aguilar is the pillar of neutrality...

Navas wasn't best anything or else he would be starting ahead of Iker. He played in a poor team so he put up great stats, it's ass simple as that. David Marshall did that at Cardiff last season and Simon Mignolet the previous season at Sunderland.

Courtois was easily the best GK in La Liga and him getting injured nearly cost Atleti the title.

Again, La Liga awards should have went to Atleti players. Madrid didn't win a single game last season against Barca & Atleti. Their players best form was in Europe and the Copa.

This is a stupid discussion. The better team does not always have the better individual players. Period.

For me it would have been:

Best forward: Ronaldo
Best attacking midfielder: Koke
Best defensive midfielder: Modric
Best defender: Godin
Best keeper: Navas
Best coach: Simeone

But it is what it is.

Stop pretending you actually watched La Liga last season. The only reason you care is because Chelsea bought half of Atleti's roster.

There is no way they are giving the award to a player who left the league anyway so Courtois and Costa had that going against them. But aside from that Navas was fantastic last season, it was clear to anyone with eyes he was playing at an elite level. The only reason he doesn't play now is purely politics. As for CR, he is the Pichichi and the best player in the world, of course he was the best forward and best player in the league lol

Agree with this. Maybe a bit harsh on Gabi but this would have been much more fair.

Agreed too. I could live with either of Gabi or Modric winning best DM.

Some clearly wasn't paying attention, Xabi was a deep lying playmaker last year. Modric had more interceptions and tackles than Xabi last season Laughing

This year however Kroos has done more defensive work than Modric so the roles may have reversed a little bit or at least it's more evenly split.
