Yeah. I have been following his development for a while now, and I think he is really good, albeit criminally underrated. ^^

Didn't hear anybody.
How often does Handanovic's name come up? He is world class, one of the best in the last few seasons. Also, I didn't hear anybody mentioning him.
Usually people tend to look at the performances that a GK achieved with their club and NT. It's normal to be like this.
When I will see Sommer at a bigger club from Europe, leading a defense and saving a team in moments of high pressure and tension, I will probably mention him.
It doesn't mean that he isn't top class.

Well, I did notice Samir Handanovic and that he's pretty good, too
Though while he's Slovenia's Nr.1 for years now, he didn't really have much chance to shine in the CL. (BTW, if you like, why don't you create a Samir Handanovic Multimedia thread with his coolest saves?)
Yann Sommer, on the other hand, already had the chance to shine against big opponents in the CL with FC Basel when he was by far the best Basel player in both (!) matches against Bayern (even the one they lost resoundingly), and he drove the strikers from several big PL clubs to despair, too.
Oh, and in the Bundesliga, his team Gladbach hasn't been defeated by Bayern either home and away since he guarding their goal.
But I guess he often gets overlooked as he is comparatively short for a goalie, and particularly in the PL, goalies are usually only considered if they are 1.90m and over XD

Yeah, that was a shot! In the post-match interview, Cologne's Thomas Kessler told the reporter that no one should blame Yann Sommer for the goal as Marcel Risse really gets on his (Kessler's) nerves with these free kicks, too, as he shoots them in training, and at least half of them go in as well.

Honestly RWO had the worst record of hyping players who were either
German
Swiss
Austrian
based on their nationality & or looks and almost always ended up fucking shit.
Sommer's career did go past expectations though.

I am not Robes, but I was petrified about Inter choosing him, I just always thought he was too short to be a top keeper and considering his age, that his reflexes will probably not make up for that. Was a bit shaky at the start, blundered a goal v Sassuolo which is our only defeat, but has been a very safe pair of hands since.
Also I was worried about his distribution considering our style but he's proven to be a safe pair of legs as well. Not Onana level, he was brilliant with the ball for us but Sommer is doing just fine.
