Re: Champions League 2014/15 | Group F
I'm so free to copy what I wrote about MAtS in the Barca section as that will likely not read by the usual GenSec readers...
MAtS has been touted as *the* big German GK talent (together with Bernd Leno) since he first showed up at BMG. I remember how he was thrown into the deep end of the pond at BMG with 18 years after he only played 3rd division before.
From the first day, he convinced everybody and while BMG was bottom of the table when his predecessor was ousted, he then only allowed an average of 0.5 goals/match and BMG stayed in the Bundesliga after all.
Practically all experts in Germany agreed that MAtS was actually more talented than Manuel Neuer and better than him at the same age and he did develop nicely at BMG.
The drawback was when he was called up to the German NT and pretty much messed up there. This was probably why Ron-Robert Zieler (who didn't really look better in the league than MAtS) was prefered to him for the NT, although MAtS is believed to have a higher ceiling.
MAtS *is* a very bright young goalie, and you can be sure that his mistakes today are not general problem, but lack of coordination with the defense as he was never allowed to properly gel with them. Luis Enrique is doing his goalies quite a disservice with his rotation as MAtS will never really look good when he is only allowed to play every 6 or 7 matches and that in the CL.

We started so poorly and PSG capitalized. We ended stronger but there is still a lot of work to do. Need to iron out these offensive tactics for if/when we reach deeper in the CL

Cavani is a pure 9 that has forgotten how to finish efficiently It's a problem obviously. His time at PSG is very much numbered unless he wakes up. Been awful this season so far and Ibra has been injured... he has no excuse.

Re: Champions League 2014/15 | Group F
Is Cavani coming out and saying he's unhappy with where's he's playing on the field?
If he is, he should shove it. Played like a scrub and games like this won't make his case if he wants to play in his preferred position on a consistent basis oh and Ibra lol

Re: Champions League 2014/15 | Group F
But he has been playing CF for a month almost now... Ibra has been injured. He's the lone striker. Been a scrub in his preferred role too.
In any case, it's confidence. From my experience, if he goes 2-3 games where he scores and gets on a roll.... he'll be back on track. I personally give him the season. We'll see where he ends up at the end.

Re: Champions League 2014/15 | Group F
Yesterday in a French portal I had read ( I can't talk French , but it is understandable to read it ) a comment who said basically :
The main image of the match will be the heroic save made by Marquinhos and his angry celebration there. Identic to Lucio in Camp Nou 2010 . Monumental .
It was at San Siro though , but lol I thought same thing when I saw it , it was really a deja vu
A sign of destiny ?

Re: Champions League 2014/15 | Group F
What do you expect after this weird decision to have the more experienced goalie play weekly and get proper practice, while having the youngster who never played CL before play CL only and not get the chance to properly gel with the defense?Collblanc wrote:MatS you pos gtfo
Shouldn't Enrique have noticed that this didn't work properly for Real either, and there they had two experienced goalies with good standing?

Re: Champions League 2014/15 | Group F
PSG were missing a lot of weapons too... namely Ibra, Silva and Lavezzi. Nice to see guys step up (other than Cavani).
Watching Lucas so far this year... he's made a lot of progress. He's going to break out imo. Verratti is on his way to becoming a superstar.
And Marquinhos should NOT be benched when Silva returns. At the very least, he should get into a regular rotations with Silva and Luiz.

Ajax cheated out of 2 points by officiating, and Barcelona flops against PSG. Looking like another group stage exit for the Dutch giants. Oh well.

Re: Champions League 2014/15 | Group F
So it will come down to the last game against Barca to decide the group winner... PSG have the next two games in Paris against Ajax and APOEL. They will win those.
Barca will need to beat PSG at home to take the group.
The top 2 spots are done and dusted.
