Platini threatens Ribéry with Bundesliga ban
Michel Platini has again criticized Franck Ribéry's decision to retire from the French NT.
In August he had said that he was "disappointed" by Riberys announcement and had also argued that it "should not be the players' decision whether they play" for the national team once they been called up by their NT coach.
http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/intligen/startseite/610727/artikel_platini-kritisiert-ribery-ruecktritt.html
Yesterday, talking to BILD am Sonntag, he went further:
"Franck Ribéry can't just decide for himself whether he plays for France or not. If coach Didier Deschamps invites him, he has to come to the national team. That is determined in the FIFA statutes. If he doesn't come, he will be banned for three games with Bayern München."
http://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/michel-platini/droht-ribery-wenn-er-nicht-fuer-frankreich-spielt-37564210.bild.html
What's the deal with this *bleep* guy?!

What is this? lol
If he dont want to play, he dont want to play.
What is happening in football where players are FORCED to play?

Are you sure there hasn't been a misunderstanding? Players retiring from national football happens all the time.

BILD asks about that (LAHM) and Platini says that "this is an entirely different situation" as Lahm made his decision in ACCORDANCE with Löw lol, what ever that is supposed to mean.
I just don't get it, when he played for them they attacked him for his escapades (which other players did as well), now he says he doesn't want to play for them anymore they attack him for that.
As Franchise says, it's nonsensical as of course they can't force him and players 'retire' from NTs all the time, so why can't they just say "thank you Franck, all the best"?!
OR, if they can't get over it, try to talk to him in private?
France is a joke of a country in respect to their attitude towards their NT, tbh.

Re: Platini threatens Ribéry with Bundesliga ban
Platini is such a p*ssy, he's like Maradona: he was great as a football player but such a c*nt as a man.
Players can retire whenever they want, it's their choice, you can't force them to play, you can't decide for them. That's just stupid.

Playing for the NT is a priviledge. If Ribery does not see it as such then he should not be forced to, he's not a slave. It's not like he has a contract with the French NT, I'm pretty sure this would be illegal.

They did this with Makelele too. I can't remember how it ended.

Re: Platini threatens Ribéry with Bundesliga ban
Problem was that Ribery didn't talk to Deschamps and/or Le Graet before announcing this. Zidane, Henry, etc (and more recently Abidal)... all talked to the NT coach and the FFF to get permission to stop NT. It's actually a rule where you are required to play for NT if called up or else face suspension like Platini mentioned. Toulalan also notified everyone first too after the 2010 WC.
But Ribery just went ahead and announced it before getting the waiver that he needed. It's always given and it's also considered good manners other than being a rule. Deschamps and Le Graet were both very angry and made public remarks that Ribery would be forced to play if they called him (they won't).
You can't just retire from NT football and continue club football without getting permission. It's been a FIFA regulation for 90 years lol.

Re: Platini threatens Ribéry with Bundesliga ban
On the other hand - does Platini really think a player will play at 100 percent if he doesn't feel like doing it anymore? That way the team could as well start by fielding only 10 players.
Moreover, who thinks that Ribéry won't get a medical certificate by Dr.Müller-Wohlfahrt that he's injured when the NT call-up comes? He only needs to claim he has back pain as that can't be easily verified and it can put a player out of commission for indefinite time.

Thats some child stuff man. Official notifications and permissions?
You need permission to stop playing? Lame.
Rule sounds like just another thing FIFA are stuck in the stone age about.

what is this rule? U never heard of it, and I'm pretty sure it's not in the rulebook . Then again Argentines don't retire from NT football.sportsczy wrote:Problem was that Ribery didn't talk to Deschamps and/or Le Graet before announcing this. Re: Platini threatens Ribéry with Bundesliga ban
there's a rule but that is meant to keep clubs from not releasing players that are called on international duty.
obviously it's not meant to force players who want to 'retire' to show up and keep playing lol.
I know sports that the fuzz is about Ribery not 'clearing' his decision with Dechamps, but that's just a matter of etiquette.
Platini claims Lahm's case is different as he has a understanding with Löw he quits and Löw therefore will not call him up again, but it's not like that was Löw's decision lol.
Lahm told him he quits and that's it.
Anyway I really don't know why Platini, chief of UEFA, would feel the need to continuously publicly talk about Ribery and how he can't/shouldn't retire, bring up that club ban rule etc.
It really is none of his business.
And BB you're right there was a similar quarrel with Makelele, who apparently went on to play after they did not accept his retirement.
Imo they keep misbehaving towards their players, they show no respect and then wonder why the players show no respect.
I mean they kep Domenech in the job for how long? lol

Platini is ready to be FIFA boss. He is just showing that he got the right amount of obnoxiousness to replace Blatter.

Re: Platini threatens Ribéry with Bundesliga ban
Because Platini is there to enforce the rules and set precedent... that's part of his job as is UEFA's. He wants to make it very clear that Ribery's manner of doing things will not be accepted. If he, Deschamps and Le Graet just let it go, it would open the door for others to do the same. You can't let something go just because the name Ribery is involved.
The worse part is that Ribery has STILL not called Deschamps or Le Graet. He has the chance to smooth things over and didn't...

Not to forget that the NT doctor of France made severe, wrong, and pretty outrageous accusations towards the Bayern doc the other week, before the WC, after which Ribery publicly sided with Müller-Wohlfahrt.
Ribery knows and remembers how the NT treated him, and how Bayern treated him in bad times, of not just medicinal nature.
Anyway already back then the French NT doctor was completely out of bounds.

He said last week that he was not running for FIFA but seeking re-election at UEFA... so there's no political agenda for the next few years. "for others to do the same?" lol
he wants to retire from the NT. that happens ALL THE *bleep* TIME.
Lahm, Klose, Mertesacker.
wtf are you talking about?
Also it's a FIFA rule which surely is not the job of UEFA chief to enforce.

Yes it is... FIFA rules are enforced by UEFA (and other regional bodies) in their geographies. Just like UEFA rules need to be enforced by the FAs. It's a federal system remember.Hapless_Hans wrote:"for others to do the same?" lol

And he would get banned 3 games by UEFA on Bayern the first time, a month the second time... and a season the 3rd time. It's no joke.Tomwin Lannister wrote:sportsczy wrote:France NT would call him and put him in the stands.... if Ribery doesn't make this right.

Lmao but he's announced his retirement, there is no rule forcing you to play for your national team until you retire all together.

Re: Platini threatens Ribéry with Bundesliga ban
Look... you're not talking about a NT coach or federation that screw around. They have a lawsuit ongoing against Nasri and his girfriend for comments they made that were derogatory. It's actually against French law to make certain comments. They haven't dropped it either.
They've made it abundantly clear that they will go down harshly on all players and follow the rules. It was very loose for a loooong time and things went crazy in France. It's the other extreme now.
