Manchester United could be closing on a deal for Mehdi Benatia after the defender dropped out of Roma’s squad to face AEK Athens in a friendly.

He'll move to either Bayern, Man Utd or Chelsea imo.

If he ends up moving for anything less than 45m i'll be pretty pissed we did not get him.

Di Marzio wrote:The situation hasn’t been unblocked. Roma’s sporting director Sabatini hasn’t left for Munich yet, the negotiation is stalling and the meeting has been postponed. Roma don’t consider Bayern’s offer for Benatia (€24M plus €2M bonuses) satisfying, it’s not enough to start negotiating concretely. That’s why Sabatini stayed in Trigoria’s training center with the rest of the management. The parties will talk again in the next hours, the future of Benatia isn’t certain yet.

Apparently we don't even want to 30M. We want to conclude the deal around 25M odd which is ridiculous. But we are okay about paying 8M Gross Salary(Which is 4M Net).
Don't know why we are fighting this big over transfer fees.

30m is not a ripoff though for a defender as good as him.

Re: Official: Mehdi Benatia signs for Bayern Munich
Well, it is all a matter of perspective, I guess. In my eyes, 30 mio are quite a lot of money (and yes, I know that David Luiz went for even 50 mio). If you look at the 10 most expesive transfers in the whole Bundesliga history, you have
Javi Martinez - 40 mio
Mario Götze - 37 mio
Mario Gomez - 30 mio
Henrikh Mkhitaryan - 27.5 mio
Manuel Neuer - 27 mio
Franck Ribéry - 25 mio
Thiago Alcantara - 25 mio
Arjen Robben - 24 mio
Marcio Amoroso - 21.5 mio
Kevin de Bruyne - 20 mio
That would make Benatia the 3rd most expensive BL transfer of all time. I think that is a bit too much for a defender who is only considered a short term replacement.

Short term ? He's only 27 now.If he continues to perform like last year,he will be the best defender at Bayern if not already.

@iftihkar
That was because Athletic Bilbao played hardball and didn't want to let him go - Bayern forced the transfer, but had to pay the release clause. Uli Hoeneß stated that he considered Martinez worth 25 mio at best, but they had no choice but to pay the 40 mio to get him. That why I think that Bayern this time don't want to overpay again.

Re: Official: Mehdi Benatia signs for Bayern Munich
With market values increasing, Benatia joining Bundesliga for €30m seems feasible.

Benatia is worth more than 30m in today's market. I hope they change their mind I don't want to see him at United.

Re: Official: Mehdi Benatia signs for Bayern Munich
If Bayern want Benatia then they should just shell out the 35m we are asking. It's quite a reasonable fee regarding the fact that the Roma values him at 61m.

Di Marzio wrote:Bayern Munich push, Mehdi Benatia is a concrete target. Today Roma met an intermediary of the negotiation. They received a €26M offer with €4M bonuses. The parties are less distant now, they keep negotiating. If the deal went through, Roma would acquire Manolas. Bayern raise their bid, Benatia is a little more distant from Roma.

Reports(from Italian and Greek media) suggest Roma already have a deal in place for Manolas should they sell Benatia.
Anyway he'll be starter in Roma something you cannot guarantee at Arsenal.

Re: Official: Mehdi Benatia signs for Bayern Munich
Yea S is right. Roma will start him while he will be 3rd choice at Arsenal.
Still hoping we can get him in but Manolas has a friend at Roma in Torosidis as well. Plus Italy is more similar to Greece than England ever could be

Re: Official: Mehdi Benatia signs for Bayern Munich
26+4 is a correct price. This was his first season played as top player to 27 years. Although he was good also to Udinese
Anyway Garcia is good to exploit defenders, also Rami gave his best under him

Still think 30m is low-ball territory.
We sell him for anything less than 40m and it's Lamela all over again. Need to channel our inner Bilbao here.
