gameweek of the young Premier League season as they host second division
Champions Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, August 23rd
Matchday 2 of the young Premier League season sees Chelsea play host to top-flight newbies Leicester City at the Bridge. Both sides will be looking to build on their, in relative terms, promising starts the weekend previous. Leicester's well-earned and even slightly unlucky 2-2 draw at Goodison Park against last year's 5th-place finishers got the Foxes off to a positive start, and manager Nigel Pearson will doubtless be looking to see if he can make it 2 unlikely results in 2 as he travels to Stamford Bridge this weekend.
Chelsea, likewise, will be looking for another 3 points against another newly-promoted side following their victory over Burnley on Monday Night Football a few days before, especially with Liverpool & Manchester City and Arsenal & Everton facing off against each other the same weekend, knowing a full 3 points from Saturday's affair will see them put some early distance between them and 1 or more of their title rivals.
The most recent meeting between the sides was in the 2011/12 season, in the 6th Round of the FA
Cup - a game the Blues — eventual winners of the trophy — won decisively 5-2 courtesy of a first Chelsea goal from new signing Gary Cahill, a Salamon Kalou strike 17 minutes in, a Raul Meireles stoppage-time netting, and a brace from Fernando Torres to end a staggering 24-game goal drought for the Spaniard.
The Blues go into this match on the back of a decisive opening-day win against other automatically-promoted side Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday evening. José Mourinho's men found themselves behind 14 minutes in to a superb goal from midfielder Scott Arfield to fire the hosts into the lead in fine fashion, but the Blues hit back immediately, with Diego Costa capitalising on a rebound off the bar to pull the visitors back level 3 minutes later. Just 4 minutes after that, a truly magisterial team goal finished off by World Cup winner André Schürrle with the help of what will surely be considered one of the passes of the season from Cesc Fàbregas put the Blues in front, before a Branislav Ivanovic goal off a Fàbregas corner some 13 minutes later finished off the evening's scoring and ultimately sealed the 3 points for the Londoners.
Leicester, likewise, as already mentioned, achieved a similarly pleasing opening day result, with a 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park opening their Premier League account.
Missing for the visitors will be Matty James and Danny Drinkwater, both injured in the Foxes' game against Everton the weekend previous, though new signing Marc Albrighton will likely be available for selection in time for Saturday's clash, with manager Nigel Pearson saying:
"It is unfortunate we have picked up one or two injuries during games. But Marc Albrighton will be training tomorrow. So we lose one, we get one back. It is nothing too drastic."
Chelsea, alternatively, have a full squad to pick from with no injuries for José Mourinho to contend with.
The match kicks off at 1500 BST

We had a very nice game against Burnley. Hopefully, we'll still have the momentum and continue with this kind of showing.
I wonder if Mou will stick with Courtois for this game. Or if he's going to play Petr.

Think now that he's gone with Courtois he's going to stick with him.

Yeah, I can see Courtois in goal again.
Thinking it'll be largely the same XI, maybe Luis for Bran but I doubt it.

Nigel Pearson plans to attack as Leicester City boss bids to spring a surprise at Chelsea:
Nigel Pearson says he has no qualms parking the bus at Stamford Bridge but insists his Leicester City side will go for the jugular in attack

"When people talk about parking the bus it is not always that they want to do that – nobody wants to soak pressure up for long periods of time."
"But sometimes you work that hard when you don’t have the ball that when you get it players aren’t capable of changing their mindset."
"I want our players, when we are at our best, for whoever is in possession of the ball to have more than two or three options."
"Chelsea have fantastic players with good imagination, good technical ability, good movement. People don’t give us much hope."
"But we have a pretty strong resolve and some very talented footballers. I want us to express ourselves. We have to defend as a team but attack as a team."

FT: Chelsea 2-0 Leicester
Made harder work of it than it should have been, but an important 3 points in the end, especially in a week where our rivals face off head-to-head.

Those were the games we didn't win last season.
It may not have been pretty but its 3 points!
Also, if Costa keeps this up, he will prove the haters wrong

Re: Premier League - Chelsea vs Leicester City
An overall well played game by in the second half.
It's amazing to see how much depth we now have on the bench that can bring about so many changes should we wish so. Like how the introduction of Drogba and Willian made us play almost at a different tempo and style.
Couple of things that I didn't like about our performance is for one: Ramires. We're playing so well with pin point passes and smart counters but he just doesn't fit into the picture. He could still be useful in defensive situations but on the offensive he's not good enough to start
Our current line up might need a change or two against bigger clubs. Still not sure if Fab and Matic can hold the midfield together. We lost too many balls that would have been punished by a better team
