Arquitescu wrote:Considering I never was ever in the favour of his signature let alone the absurd price of to which we signed him I need not elaborate more.
Yet, when you have a CB who since being hyped from Dinamo failed to impress in Lyon on a consistent basis (he was awful) followed by ONE decent season in a top league (at a mid-table club), then what does that bring you?
When Liverpool cease the habit of signing players from mid-table clubs whom have had one good season then we might progress further.
But they're proven and are therefore quality...

I can bet, although if we drop Lovren and play the same way as we are playing now, it wont make any difference whatsoever. Although I agree Lovren has been nothing special as of now, you just cant blame him for our defensive mistakes. I may try Skrtel-Sakho but next game it is mostly, Skrtel-Lovren together.
we will start performing better defensively when Allen is back and attacking wise when Studge is back. End of story.

Re: Dijon 'Mustard' Lovren || #6
He's SUPPOSED to make a difference ffs. He cost 20m..................
You're right though. It's not his fault we're deluded in the market.
________
@Arq:
He obviously didn't come from a mid-table club, but I find it rich how you can say Markovic is great (keep in mind he wasn't even a regular for Benfica) and then slate the others on one season? lol
This isn't a dig at Markovic either, he can or cannot be great, but his future is just as undecided/unclear like the rest of them. Don't get me wrong, I believe in him and Can to be good in the next few years, assuming we don't offload them to bring in the next "wonderkd" of the month, but yeah, don't think it's quite fair on the others (even if you see me slating most of them).

I still havent given up hopes on him. If he fails, it will be such a terrible transfer for 20m, smh.
Markovic has enough time to get himself together at Anfield. He doesnt need to start firing immediately. But I was surprised that he started ahead of Suso, yday.

I still think his the scapegoat for a lot of our defensive problems, yeah he hasn't been flash but i honestly reckon his taking, as well as the other CB for a poor midfield.

Metz and Kozz were bad to average in their 1st 6 months so Lovren still has sometimes. Problem is with the 1st two while playing bad, Arsenal fans could see their strength or how to play them in set up. I just couldnt see any traits that make Lovren good pairing with the remaining CB.

YNWA: Notice I name Markovic and Moreno because in them you have two youngsters who had fantastic seasons last year with the added propensity of improving much further and a high ceiling. Markovic is only 20 yet racked up 49 apps for Benfica last season, his most prominent use in the Europa League to which he was one of the competitions best players as I was very happy with his signing.
Difference between him and the other signings?
-We all know of what Balotelli can do, yet this is a player I do not trust and for many reasons until he can win it over within 1 and a half season' length.
-Lallana you and I have the exact same thoughts on.
-Lambert is a stop-gap and one that will not surprise me if he proves useless
-Can is a shrewd signing but has yet to perform in a full season' length though is only 20. I have mixed feelings on his future success yet have no doubt he can be world class if developed properly.
Yes, Markovic happens to be VERY raw yet my reasoning is more simple and due to what I see in him and the well priced price we acquired for him.

Nobody can tell me with a straight face he is better than Sakho.

I would rather see Sakho and Lovren playing together to be honest.

I would rather sell all 3 and play with Ilori and Coates.
For the rest of the season I would rather play with no defense whatsoever. Play 8 midfielders for all I care.

Take it easy chap it's still very early and in all likelihood we'll be top 4 after this weekend. Just think about that. Our team has been disjointed, unenthused and a general mess for the most part and we're still top 4. Once we get it together, and we will, our position will only strengthen.

Oh I know we as a club will most likely get top 4. I'm talking about our defense. Absolute garbage every single one of them. Only Moreno, Manquillo, and Flanno would remain after this season in an ideal world.

Meh I'm not giving up on Lovren and Sakho already. Both young and haven't had much exposure to the team (and it's almost a completely new team this season anyway). I'm also not really sold on Manquillo though he's been good; I would prefer to go for a more experienced and industrial right back if possible and just keep Flanno as the backup. Would love to see if PSG plan on keeping both Aurier and VdW, otherwise one of those would do nicely with us.
Actually Oliver Sorg would be an amazing pick-up but I doubt he's even on the radar. He would be perfect.

If he thinks growing that beard will hide the fact that he is pure s**t from us, he is sorely mistaken .

It's pretty awful that a 33-year-old free-agent seems to now be, deservedly, ahead of this £20m defender who is supposed to be in his prime years.

I'd take a 33 year old free agent over this fool any day of the week. And my thoughts on Kolo are quite well known.

Most defenders actually seem to be at their best when they are older. I'm not a huge fan of Toure but his experience is welcome especially since we don't have anyone organizing our backline right now.
Lovren just turned 25 and is coming off a great season where he was nearly flawless (by all accounts) at Southampton. Just like the people calling for Rodgers' head it's way too early to write Lovren off because of a slow start in a new system with new teammates.

I still hope Lovren will come good for us but he seems to have not quite adjusted to life at Liverpool yet. The more he plays the way he was playing, more n more he is proving RA right.

Just watched this, and yeah, Carragher provides a very good analysis. Lovren's struggles have been his own fault. He's a poor reader of the game with limited skills anyway. I cannot believe the money we paid for this guy, makes me sick.

Are you kidding me? He was just BRILLIANT last season. Well worth the 20m. Definitely the reason why Soton were sooooo good defensively. They may have conceded like 2 goals less than we did (with Wanyama and Schnei helping out) but Lovren was magical. Reminded me of Big Sami in his prime. Marvelous defender.

Lovren, though, has looked uncomfortable whenever he has been asked to do so, tending to dive in and struggling against nimble, pacy opponents. Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports highlighted his tendency to stay centrally, leaving gaps in the channels which smart attackers could exploit.

Was thrown straight into a very high intensity game. He did well imo.
They yellow he took was for the team as well. I was satisfied with his shift.
