Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
I disagree with that Nick... only did it when playing super-possession teams like Bayern and Barca. It was a gimmick setup specifically designed for those. We did not play a 442 against Atleti.

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
I get what you guys are saying but we aren't exactly going to solve our lack of depth problem we had last season with this switch. I am not saying DiMaria will definitely stay but it makes sense that he will. We already lost Morata and Ronaldo has his injury problem. We are gunning for 6 trophies and the club does not look like they will sign a CF back up. Are we going to overplay our guys again or are we buying another attacker because I can guarantee you we cannot go into next season looking even thinner up top than last. It just doesn't make sense DiMaria has to be shifted, but that's probably just me grasping at straws who knows

roflmao madrid are kings of signing players at the worst times...90 mil for a player that had a good world cup
well done to monaco if they get the whole 90 mil...they ripped off madrid big time like spurs did last year.

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
it's not a gimmick. we went 442 in Cl final and pathetico were the ones defending. besides, gimmick or not, when the other team will attack and we have to defend, we will need to bank of 4 working together. that will not happen with CR on the left.sportsczy wrote:I disagree with that Nick... only did it when playing super-possession teams like Bayern and Barca. besides, 442 is a formation Carlo loves and feels natural with. James fits right in. CR continues to have his freedom tactically, he is the one important.

if they play 4-2-3-1 , who would you pick to play in the double pivot ?

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
it's 70 mil and it doesnt matter, we will make that money back and then some because wait for it... we are rich, have no owner, and all profits go to the team lol.moutinho98 wrote:roflmao madrid are kings of signing players at the worst times...90 mil for a player that had a good world cup

@Hala, yes, we still need a CF, and hopefully Jesse will be back, but that's it. Illarra should probably go. i would personally sell Marcelo too, but that's for me. last season we had a lot of injuries too, keep that in mind. if everyone is fitter this season we will have issues giving time to everyone.

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
Well, we made it work with Khedira-Alonso and Arbeloa-Marcelo as the fullbacks under Mou. So if you consider that Carvajal-Coentrao are better defensively and more athletic... Modric-Kroos may work. But if it doesn't, then you need to play either Khedira or Alonso with one of Modric or Kroos.farfan wrote:if they play 4-2-3-1 , who would you pick to play in the double pivot ?

yeah , modric-kroos sounds too risky for me .
alonso-kroos is the way to go imo.

wait, so if alonso kroos play the double pivot (which against teams who press hard is just as risky) what happens to modric? he plays on the bench? if that's the case, this deal just resembles shooting ourselves in the foot twice, killing two effective birds from last season with one stone - di maria, who is likely to be sold, and modric on the bench- who had a stellar season
imo just another reason i'm worried about the signing; modric needs to play, he's been good, u don't treat athletes that way; kroos is a new signing, so guess what? the club will want him to play. Playing the double pivot with 2 central midfielders and no one who can be rescinded to solely doing the dirty job is dangerous, i thought we found this out when we let makelele go and put people like beckham, figo and even guti in central midfield at certain points in the 03/04 season
once again not only is our 4 3 3 style being hampered, (especially with a di maria exit),even the 4 2 3 1 becomes a variation of what its supposed to be; it usualy entails a central mid and a defensive mid- the defensive mid lying in front of the back four...playing kroos, modric, or even alonso in such a role is a waste of their talent
and finally, as i have mentioned before, it looks like we are going into the season with only 1 center forward. so far, this doesn't look like a well thought out plan....my only hope is that ancelotti actually has a plan for what he wants the team to look like and that plan has room for a reliable back up plan or modification in the event it doesn't work out

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
Well someone is getting benched for sure by James... and that person is Di Maria since he's going to be sold. The issue is that James doesn't defend much.... a lot better than Ozil, but nowhere near Di Maria. So you defense takes a hit that you need to compensate for. Also, Kroos is not as good as Alonso defensively (believe it or not ).
So by adding James and Kroos, Madrid have created a lot of defensive problems for themselves. You don't have Toulalan or Lahm to cover mistakes... so it's a challenge.

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
Exactly, Kroos as a defensive midfielder is out of the question; imo so too is modric, whilst he (modric) works hard, his best asset is utilized more on the offensive end of things, stringing passes together...whilst alonso has more experience in the defensive midfield department, i still don't fancy him in that role especially against tough teams, as he makes some bone headed plays and tackles.....di maria sold and modric riding the bench is not a good look for the club, nor does it enhance player loyalty. many can make the argument that modric and di maria have every right to be uncontested starters in their positions....

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
I hate on Alonso's defensive abilities, but he at least is there to foul and he is quite tough and gritty at least. Better in the air than he looks also.

Doesn't everyone defend better than Oezil?! Don't think that is a major accomplishment really...

I was wondering too, what would've happened had Kroos missed the penalty on an open goal
