Re: golden ball has lost its meaning
I believe Messi is the best player ever to set foot on this planet. And so yes, also this WC he was the best player. Maybe not the most desicive - but who cares about stats? When he scored 90 goals you guys said it wasnt about goals. Now its about goals.

Re: golden ball has lost its meaning
Robben was a non factor against Argentina, Costa Rica and apart from diving Mexico too.
Messi doesn't deserve it, but the double standards are strong if you think Robben does.
Just as if not more irrelevant in KO stages than Messi was.

Forever a barca hater and 100% proud
You should change your sig if you want to seem unbiased
BTW it should say
Messi - Zeru Tituli
CR - La Decima

Re: golden ball has lost its meaning
The only person who was clearly the stand out player in this tourney ahead of the guys that did well was Hames. Exceptional in all 5 games. Messi, Robben, and Muller played 7 each and still didn't capitalize in any way.
Messi is just as deserving as Robben or Muller.

Just because Messi is "smh" "the best player ever to set foot on this planet" doesn't mean the he PERFORMED best at this tournament. His performance in the 2 matches was embarrassing, "idiot"

Re: golden ball has lost its meaning
Yes because Masche got us single handedly out of a tough spot vs Iran, because it was Masche who stepped up when no one else could vs Bosnia, because Masche scored two goals vs Nigeria and because it was Masche that got us through Switzerland...Phritz wrote:Se7en wrote:please stop, clearly the best player for argentina...
Mascherano has been far more important than Messi by a mile lol.
Messi was not stellar but he was clutch and got us through the tough spots. Granted after the 4th match he stopped carrying us, but he also had less people up front to associate with or play off.
I'm not saying he was the best player of the cup, that to me was Neuer, but he was not even in the running. But all these "Messi was not even the best Argie" comments are ridiculous.

Re: golden ball has lost its meaning
Messi virtually did nothing after the group stages. How the *bleep* can anyone say he deserved it? Argentina's entire defense, Mascherano and Romero were far better than Messi in the knockout rounds and are the only reason they got this far.
Vlaar, Robben, Romero, Neuer, James, Kroos, Mascherano, Schweinsteiger, Muller & Schurrle would have been far more deserving of it.
People blinded by the stat-padding he did in the group stages.

Without Mascherano Argentina go out against Holland tbh.
Zero goals in the knockout stages says it all. If CR was in this position the forum would have exploded

But Messi is humble and a Barca player. CR is arrogant and a Madrid player.

THISSSS
Messi's influence can't be matched by anyone. What he did for Argentina was more than what Mascherano did or Rojo. There would be no last ditch tackling for Mascherano to do if it wasn't for Messi being there. Argentina would be another England without him.
He is a leader Argentina deserve, but not the one it needs right now. So the haters will hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful leader. A Dark Knight.

Re: golden ball has lost its meaning
I'd like to see stats for Messi in the tournament vs other players
Chances created, and all that. He was deceivingly more influential in those knockout games than people give him credit for...espeically cause he walked allot. That doesn't mean he wasn't a major factor in his team.

Re: golden ball has lost its meaning
Lionel Messi is the player who created the most chances (23) and completed the most dribbles (46) in World Cup 2014
That is probably why he won the award.

Messi also had 4 MOTM performances, more than any other player. Another reason why they probably gave it to him
