World Cup FINAL: Germany vs Argentina discussion

I am a bit worried about Höwedes, again.

Basically the only meaningful attacking move Argentina had for the first 60 minutes or so was sending Lavezzi on runs on the right side who crossed it in for Higuain.

They might just try that again, and watch Höwedes not be able to deal with it.

Luckily Hummels should have the advantage in terms of crosses to Higuain, its all well and good getting in behind Howedes but it will be all in vain if the final ball is poor which it was tonight tbf.

2 options :

Lahm to be new Andy Brehme after a boring match as in a Roman night

or another 4-0

true, but the move worked a number of times, there was one cross that was good and that was almost a goal.

Feel some of that was the Holland formation though. The 3 CB's want to stay in the middle to keep it 3 v 2 on Higuain and Messi. So if Blind loses the ball or is outpaced by Lavezzi then the space will appear. And Blind HAS to get forward because he is so responsible for the width.

Howedes doesnt have to come forward like that. If he is smart he never once gets ahead of the ball.

Yes that is true. Still worried.

Of course every single Brasilian will be supporting Germany on Sunday.

And if they lose I'll probably quit watching football and take up curling.

Argentina are winning this in a tight game. Simply because we trashed them last time around. Which means they will sweat extra blood now so it doesn't happen again. They are on a mission. Just look at Mascherano's face, fss.

This time Messi will unleash all of his fury on Germany.

Argentina were only really able to create through the wings because the Dutch so dominated the midfield battle, their pressing was incredible and they man marked the players blocking the pass from CBs to Biglia, Enzo and Masche. So they just passed to the FBs, which passed to Lavezzi, which led to him dribbling past them pretty easily but doing a shit cross at the end.

If BRA-GER taught us anything is that the Germans can not only also do this, but do it better. Their pressing in the midfield was even more intense.

It still hasn't sunk in to me that we have to play this germany team.

Yes we only won by one goal margins but I think it's fair to say we were the better team in a lot of those matches and most of our wins were deserved. A lot of those teams' tactics were basically "stop argentina" rather than "beat argentina".

Although you're from Iran and I'm from Argentina so we're hardly unbiased

In a sense I get your point Mamad, but at the end of the day the only team I can say 'deserves' to be in the final is Germany

The other three semi finalists were all poor at times and relied on a lot of luck.

You also have to applaud Argentina for their defensive work today at least, very impressive.

They were good enough to reach the final. If they beat Germany, they are good enough to win it.

Netherlands was Argentina's first "real" opponent.
Road to the final for them was Bosnia, Iran, Nigeria, Switzerland, Belgium, then Netherlands.

How lucky they've been to have these opponents with the way they've played this tournament.

I'm still trying to decipher how this dull Argentina team made it to the World Cup final. They had nothing going forward today, nada. Clueless gameplan, and their saviour Messi had a shocker. Only lucky that they met a Dutch team knackered from playing their second extra time match.

One thing I rate about this Argentina team is their defence. Organized well and in Mascherano, they have someone playing out of his skin. He played well.

Germany have nothing to fear. Overwhelming favourites, imo.

Argentina didn't concede single goal in KO stage and won all of their game.If this is luck well then i have nothing to say..No one even give a chance to Argentina's defense before WC..talk about irony.

But Argentina had more chances to score than the dutch today. Also, I'm not sure if you know but the Argentina team of 1990 was more dull than this one and germany still had a hard time in the final.

Netherlands Parked the bus despite beating team 5-1.If Netherlands Played open game we might have seen different game. Apart from Nigeria every other team played PTB Tactics against them.
Germany are much talented team so of course they are favorite. But don't write off Argentina yet.

prediction: Probably Germany
preference: dislike them both equally

i would actually cheer for Argentina in this match if it was in another WC for South America's sake,but due to circumstances i can't.

got to say Argentina might give Germany some trouble as I can see them playing defensive football and counter attacking with Di Maria and Messi.They aren't going to attack and give space like we did.
