You know this generation of Dutch don't seem to me to be suffering from any such complex. If they win the world cup they would have to be called the mentally toughest ever generation of Dutch footballers.

I was about to say the same thing.
Re: Semi-Final: Argentina Vs Netherlands
Conventional logic would say a very tight game but this world cup is determined that there be no top level competition.
Hence it will probably be a case of one team scoring first and the other team looking unlikely to be able to do anything about it for the rest of the match. Even 5-0 from either side is not completely ruled out.

Re: Semi-Final: Argentina Vs Netherlands
dani said that without De Jong Netherlands would struggle against Messi but without Di Maria Argentina would struggle. So if de Jong is back and Di Maria is not then dani will you now say Netherlands are the favourites for this one?
Re: Semi-Final: Argentina Vs Netherlands
They were probably slight favourites to me anyway, they can cope with De Jong...Argentina without Di Maria are a mystery to me.
I have to be somewhat concerned for Argentina. Last night, the game got very "European" on Brazil, systematic and organised pressure, defending deep at times, pressing at others, lots of modern elements, very complete tactics...during the group stages and during Brazil's KO games, they had a more classical South American look to it. More freedom and expression(not that Brazil had the means to use it) vs teams with one general idea.
If it is thats way for Argentina (I imagine it will) you have to be concerned.
Logically based on both teams style so far, Argentina are going to keep the ball trying to break down numbers, Holland are going to counter into space.

Re: Semi-Final: Argentina Vs Netherlands
Completely neutral for this game. Either Messi takes over and leads Argentina to the promised land or the Dutch overwhelm the Argentinians and get a meeting with the Germans at the Maracana.
Re: Semi-Final: Argentina Vs Netherlands
Where's this myth coming from that Argentina are some kamikaze attacking team with no thought to defense what so ever?
Surely if that's the case then why have they won every game by the odd goal and won 1-0 in 3 of the 5 games.

Babun wrote:By the way, I expect a similar score line like in the Ger vs. Bra game (not 7-1 obviously but Netherlands will show the world how crap that Argie NT is). It's not about Messi or Robben, Netherlands as a collective is a really strong team which plays on counters for the most part but could launch an assault on a PTB as well. Argentine plays wannabe attacking footy in a very half hearted passion. There's no way they won't bow out by at least 2 goals difference against this Netherlands.
Quoted so I can make fun of you after the game.

Demichelis to have the game of his life. Will neutralize RvP and Robben on his own.
Kicking out Louis van Gaal will be the cherry on top of his career and deep personal satisfaction.

What is that, the third or fourth match this WC where the Dutch didn't make a single shot on target in the first half? Ugh.

Wijnaldum should be taken off, he's doing nothing out there. De Guzman or Fer are better. Kuyt Holland's best player so far. Blind and Indi having a bad game, every Argentina attack is coming from their flank.

Re: Semi-Final: Argentina Vs Netherlands
As expected, LVG focused entirely on negating the threat of Argentina/Messi and so the Dutch attackers are being isolated and failing to get into the match for large stretches. I honestly think the Dutch would have been better served trying to get on the ball and control with it, starving Argentina's attack of supply and focusing on creating opportunities for themselves.
